    I have been looking at a number of QVs and I was wondering if there were any differences in the cars during their 3 year run cycle. I have been told that the 85 was a good year. Did any of the years have any inherent problems. Usually, by the end of the run, the final year has had all its bugs solved. Was this true with the QVs?
    On another note, people tend to collect, or at least feel that the first year and the last year of a vehicle's production will have greater long term value, in this case, 77 and 85. Any thoughts?

    Hi Steven.

    As far as I know there are so many differences in the US QV's.

    Engine:
    -82/83, dual cat. 84/85, single cat. Muffler is different
    -Injectors seals are different in the 82/83 and 84/85
    -Pulleys and belts for the alternator and water pump are different
    -Air filter housing, one for 82/83 versions, different one for the 84/85

    Interior:
    -Central console buttons for aerial and rear defroster

    If there are more changes tell them to Steven guys. I don't remember more.

    About values, is normal that the first and last versions are the most sought after.

    There is more. 84 and 85s have a frequency valve, 02 sensor and a Bosch lambda control unit (black ecu type unit in trunk). The 83 doesn't. 84/85 also has a throttle position sensor.

    84/85 has pluse air injection vs. air pump driven by belt off of cam.

    83 has a vacuum limiting valve and i don't think the 84/85s have them.

    I prefer 85s but I owned an 83 and it was a great car.

    Serious rust proofing began in 1984. Early 83s have the 390 wheels, a big minus. Basically no difference between 84 & 85 except the fuse box cover attachment which went from velcro that tended to fall off to a top of knob operated clip.

    I don't like the smog pump and early style smog system on the 83. The 84/85 have simpler smog systems with a cleaner, neater engine bay.
