Thanks Jon, look forward to meeting up with other HK Fchat members. Being new to Ferrari ownership since 6 months, I've got quite a few questions about modification, servicing, etc. I installed Capristo exhaust in my 550 few months back and found it a bit too loud even at idle, I wonder if there are any other 550 owners in HK installed the same level 3 Capristo exhaust in HK?

I think I might have seen some of you guys before in Luk Keng morning drives over the past years, as I went out regularly with my motorbike friends every Sunday morning.

I did a lot of mods to my 550 a few years back (sold the car a long time ago). You need to lighten the car - ditch the cats, stock seats are heavy... Fiorano a must. Also 19" wheels which allow for Brembo big brakes - 380's on front and 355's on back. 550 has a lot of potential. Enjoy!

New cars are close to perfect so none of this necessary. 550 generation was the last that needed upgrades

    Welcome!

I have a 575 SA and so track the 456/550/575 threads on FChat. There is a lot of useful information on 550 and 575 upgrades in that section and a couple of very knowledgeable guys from USA who are regular contributors. They have been compiling lists of mods against build numbers. Worth a look and they can for sure answer many questions you may have on 550.

    Thanks Paul,

Surely it will be exciting to see your Super America, I bet yours is the only one in HK? I think I saw your car (red?) from a distance in Admiralty about a year ago, I was thrilled to know there is SA in HK!
I have been reading the threads in the 550 / 575 section, there are some good & helpful reads. Still trying to find out whether F430 / 360 wheels will fit on 550 though..... do you know the answer to this? Is 19inch front / 20inch rear wheels a good combo for the car?

Thanks for warm welcome also DM18,

Nice to know there is EX-hardcore 550 mod. owner out there, good advises on the mods, sounds like I better keep my head down working to get $$$ for the mods you suggested! My next target is the Capristo X-Pipe, then Hyper Flow cats / wheels. I plan to take things slowly as I think my 550 will be a keeper for quite some long while.
Your collection of exotic cars are truely every men's dream, especially the F40 (I have seen it in Luk Keng before) which is the Ultimate dream car.

Look forward to seeing some of you guys on the road soon!

I was thinking about a more informal lunch or something, sorry to hear about the wheels. Are you having IMSS fix them? A friend totally screwed his wheels on a Quattroporte and they did a great job repairing them.

For the 550 i would stick with either 19/19 or go 20/20. The rears have a ton of space so you can really get a wide wheel under there with a lower offset. Example there was a 19x12.5 wheel with a +50 offset, those needed 25mm spacers in the rear.

You must really be very new to HK or the Ferrari scene in HK ;) There are at least 5 SA's around (that I have seen, sure there are more). I don't think there are many contemporary Ferrari models that HK doesn't have! You ought to check out fellow member RWP's spotter pics sometimes, then you'll know what I mean :)

Dependent on what my pop wants, he usually takes it to IMSS; but he doesn't seem so sure this time.

I had my other car's wheels painted black by Richburg Motors and they did a nice job for a reasonable price, maybe we will consider there.

I heard two versions from IMSS that there were either 8 or 12 SAs allocated to HK. Not sure which was correct. I do know Australia only got 8. USA got 200 and UK about 70.
Not sure how many of them are still here in HK? I personally know of two other red ones and a black one, but that is about it.

I scuffed the front left wheel on my SA and IMSS either skimmed or got the rim skimmed for me, and must say they did a fantastic job.

There is a rosso scuderia and a grigio titanio around the South; I also know of a yellow one around mid levels.

I'm sure HK Fchat members know a lot more than me but I have seen them in black, yellow and a couple in red but I don't actually have many SA's photographed. Ironically I actually have more pictures of the even rarer Barchetta.

On the 550 Maranello topic, I heard Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame has decided to modify his 550M instead of selling it. I remember seeing it up for sale in a Classic Car magazine for not much more than GBP40K a good few months ago.

Wow, you guys really know the statistics, made me feel even more of a Ferrari amateur now than ever, I didn't know there are that many 550SA in HK! Good advises too Jon, I could never figure out how to determine wheel offsets, I guess I will know when I start shopping for a set of 19 in. for my 550. I just changed a set of Michelin PS2 on my factory rims, and repaired the front rim scratches by IMSS, they look brand new now so I think I will mod the wheels later. Priority is still the X-pipe!

Where do you guys service your F car? Always by IMSS? Ap Lei Chau branch or Kai Tak? (Syvester Lo there told me they are moving to Tai Wai, anyone been there?), or are there other Ferrari specialist in HK? What about modifications? Any shop that's a Ferrari specialist? I got my Capristo from Andy @ FerrariAdvocates.com, but I happened to find him from USA Ebay motors.....

Sorry folks.... Told you I have alot of questions.....

Ah yes I am pretty sure I have seen the grigio titanio one too. IIRC it drove past a place where me and a few friends were having a few celebratory drinks so my memory is a little fuzzy.

No pictures of the black one I'm afraid.

    Allan,

I think you may be able to find the original wheel size and offsets on the 550/575 forums and you must also find the original wheel diameter and width to determine the right or desired offsets for your new wheels, i can help you with this since this is basically all i do every day. Also when up-sizing you must take into consideration your tire size, with the lower profile tire there will be less sidewall and also depends on the tire some have more square sidewalls some have more rounded so to get that perfect setup a lot must be taken into account. Good news is owners have put on custom wheels so there is plenty of info on that.

Andy @ ferrariadvocates is a great guy and a real enthusiast but only deals with the parts not the servicing, there are quite a few shops i find that do service f-cars, one was recommended to me by a board member with a testarossa, shop is called Max motor, not to be confused with max motorsports which does aftermarket stuff for bmw, mini, benz etc. I saw a few older ferrari's in there being totally restored, mostly testarossa, 328, 308.

Depends on where your location is i think the guys at ap lei chau are great, i always have my products installed there and the staff are very accommodating.
