Speedlines rock! Aren't they OE on the 288 GTO? I have similar ones (17") on my 308, they look great--fantastic quality also! GG
OEM Speedlines for the 308 Series are actually a nicer version of the casting, to my eye. Obviously later in time than the long time vendor Chromodora, the edges of the casting itself are 'sharper' and more defined, giving the overall appearance a much crisper presentation. They are definately different and will not 'mix and match' with a Chromo set without noticable differences. Speedlines are rarer.......if the price is right I say "Full speed...ahead"
Greg yours and the 288GTo are 3 piece riveted Speedlines. The OP sounds as if he is looking at a set of cast Speedlines provided to the 308QV and early 328s when Speedline replaced Chromodora as OEM on the one piece cast wheels. I once had an opportunity in John Vallandingham's shop to line the Chromodora, Campagnolo, and Speedlines all up against a wall together and study them at length. The basis of my observations........I had pictures but I think the 25th Anniversary Penthouse Pet got away with them, one night....
Thank's guys, It makes my opinion even more positive about - those wheels, so as you said ....full speed ...ahead. - the quality of your answers given in the threads. You know what you are talking about, effectively, edges are sharper and give a "crisper general image of the car". As you probably, j can't stand the unproper offset of the rears of all replica's + their 4/6 pounds each especialy in the front. A 308 euro GTBqv is very rare and beautiful car in all senses, nothing but the best deserves it. j just wanted to check with you j was in the right ...direction!
I am pretty sure though that in fact the (raised letter)Cromodora's are made of Magnesium (or a Mag.alloy), not the Speedlines. Mind filling in your profile Martin.Marc?

I have a late 85 QV and it has the Cromadoras. When did they make the switch? Also, what are the visual differences? And can someone post photos of both? PDG
I believe the Speedlines were made from 1977 to ?, the Cromodoras were made from around 1982/83. Here are some pics of wheels I have (not on my car yet....). They still need to be refinished. The ones with the 'raised letters are 8jx16" Cromodoras, the ones with the 'Speedline' decals are 8jx16" well....Speedlines. Actually IMO Cromodoras were older, they made all the 14"s....Champagnolo made 14"s too. Speedlines appeared with the advent of 16" rims and Cromodora continued also as a supplier. I don;t think it was yaer to year changeover, I suspect Enzo was playing both vendors against each other for pricing considerations! I do much the same thing in my business a monopoly is always bad..... Speedline continued well into the 328, 288GTO and even the F40 years so they are later...
The old alloys are definately nice....I thought about it as I watched a guy yesterday fix a flat on one of my 14"s... He really didn't know how much 'history' he was holding in his hand..... Did a nice careful job though, I picked thru the tire changer machine and found three of the lightweight metal stem caps...probably MINE! LOL! They are now....
OK, if I am reading this right, all rear rims are 16X8 and all fronts are 16X7 ? If this is the case, is the spare to be a 16X7 ? and if it is (as it is on my car) will it fit on the rear?
About this time a space saver wheel began to appear in the 'set', IIRC..... But, IMO a 7'W would go on the rear temporarily better than an 8"W would go on the FRONT!!! Mine are 7.5"W all around though, (14" diameter) so I guess it'd get you down the road..........
Another aside as we swap wheels around, on my cars 1976-77 the lug bolts themselves are different front/rear.
I was referring to the production dates of the wheels, not the age of the companies Speedline and Cromodora. I have the original 14" Cromodoras on my car as well. The earliest 308's had Campagnolo 14" wheels. I still believe Speedline made the EARLY 16" wheels, and Cromodora made the LATER (for the QV's, after the Speedline metric wheels) 16" rims.
Bubba, don't worry I have a few 7j's (Cromo's and Speedlines) in my shed as well! Justed wanted to show pics of same width/different manufacturer.....
I prefer the raised letters (less color contrast and more durable) to the decals. I also like the PN/technical information that Cromodora put (permanently) on the backside of the spokes. I wouldn't throw a set of the Speedlines away, but, if I had them refinished, I'd probably go sans decals - just my personal preference.
+1 to Big Tex's comments -- compared to using a space saver spare, using a 7" wide on the rear is hardly a sin at all (so no trouble to use it at the rear to get home or to the repair shop). IIRC, the 8" wide won't fit under the front bonnet so the 7" wide is the only standard size option (and the reason why the 7" x 16" are easier to find than the 8" x 16").
The 8" will have to ride in the passenger's seat, leaving your girlfriend on the highway shoulder...... I don't think there's any Real World application differences at all..............I would just avoid mixing them for appearances standpoint.. GLAD you have the front wheels, too!!! LOL!!!! See how much easier life is, keeping the 14" x 7.5, all around?????
Steve, Have you ever seen a set of Cromodoras like one I have? The application data is actually on the FRONT of the spare wheel! Inside one of the spoke webs..... The set came with #20405 but was not original to that car.. Someday I'll take a pic of all my extra wheels! LOL!
