First of all, I didn't say to not use a device. ANY of these devices is better than not wearing one, that isn't in question; the devices save lives, no question about that either.

That said, F1 drivers have no issue with egress as there is nothing to get caught on; I was not talking about them, I was talking about closed cars like the fellow who posted will be driving. Specifically I was speaking of taller/bigger guys in tight, closed cockpit cars. If you search, there have been multiple crashes where the HANS was caught on something, trapping the driver in the car; one well documented crash where the driver couldn't get out of the car until the window net melted off its mounting points. What I am saying is to take these things into account. Governing bodies mandate the HANS specifically; the HANS guys actually helped them write the rules on Head and Neck Restraints... convenient. Regardless, it's all about doing research and using what you're comfortable with.

That's one reason you can buy your HANS with quick release tethers, some drivers keep belt knives in their car especially rally guys, window nets are mandated by many bodies to be drop down not flip up, cornerworkers all have belt knives as sidearms with their fire bottles. For this particular poster the R3 is the best choice as an instructor. How would you like to be held up in a car by an R3 which can't be removed as quickly as a HANS or Isaac? R3 has that thing on the spine that does not feel good unless you have the foam cutout thing for your seat. I think the best choice would be the hutchins hybrid R3 for a smaller profile. Isaac has a tricky attachment to the hanress and is not easily moved from car to car that an instructor would need. Isaac qr pins are a pain to put on your helmet when you are in the car. I don't know if the design has changed but years ago when I ran an Isaac there was no funnel shape to the helmet anchor to help guide the QR pin into the anchor. You had to have gloves off and feel around for the hole.
