Valid question--With F1, you're aiming for one of 20 drives. NASCAR puts twice as many cars on the track and you can compete until you're 50.

Interesting, but the guy is like another Christiano Da Matta. Win championships in US open wheel racing then experience a shock when they run against the "big boys."

During P2, the Speed guys said Bourdais' wife told French media that this is his last race. Ouch!

As are 80% of the current drivers in F1..

Oh, I dunno, I liked Dan Gurney, and Mark Donohue could do it but Mark didn't get to F1 until his later years...

Some of the problem is most folks in the USA are too big to fit into an F1 car, and they have too many other motorsports options.

By the same token, I don't see too many europeans in the NFL - aside from kickers.

Is there any way we can get rid or - er - send Kyle Busch or Earnhardt to F1 so we can get a good laugh?

Loeb is also interested in the seat - he's done testing with Red Bull before at Barcelona.

I disagree. Actually quite the opposite: I think there are a lot of super talented guys out there who could win a race if they had the right car under them. I think it is only a minority who doesn't have it.

BTW: My view is shared by a member of the Ferrari team, who told me once in a personal conversation.

    I'd reconsider that.
Perhaps posted without much thought its a hard position to hold.
With 20 drivers on the grid you're saying only 4 are competent.
So if we start with 3 world champions that leaves us choosing between at least 6 remaining GP winners for your 4th competent driver.
You leave us with 5 incompetent race winners who you say can't cut it.

Maybe you were speaking figuratively or some other adjective applies.

I'd like to imagine Fred or Lewis in a Toyota, or in a Williams. I can bet there'll be a few wins already, if either one of them were driving for either team.

Not sure there'd be any wins with Hamilton, because I don't think he could develop the car to that point.

Fred in the Toyota would have won something by now (given enough years with the team to develop the POS).

Not sure Fred in the Williams would have accomplished anything: They strike me as completely disorganized (a far cry from my beloved team in the late seventies/eighties) and lack of funds everywhere. I think Rosberg is hugely talented and would have pulled a rabbit out of the hat if that had been possible. In the pre qualifying interview today he said that he expects to get on the podium soon. Hopefully he is right.

    Silly season....

Tonio Liuzzi today indicated he may soon be able to announce his return to Formula One.

The 27-year-old Italian has spent the last two seasons as Force India's test and reserve driver, and it is believed his deal with the Silverstone-based squad guarantees a race seat next year.

Liuzzi, already with 39 Grand Prix under his belt for Red Bull's F1 teams, did not refer to his contract at the Nurburgring on Saturday, but grinned when asked which of the three new entrants he most fancies for a ride next year.

"Maybe one of the present ones," he told the BBC. "Hopefully soon we can announce something.

I think we are really close to stepping back into a race seat.”

Force India are expected to take up the option on Adrian Sutil’s option shortly while Giancarlo Fisichella’s current deal is expected to lapse.

Looked like a goodbye to me, might be wrong though. We'll see in about 2 weeks or so. Or if Torro Rosso anounce it before the race.

I read somewhere they are going to make an anouncement this week tuesday/wednesday

Even if Bourdais hasn't been showing too much in F1, (he had to take buemi's settings for the race today)

I'm not sure replacing him with a very young rookie (that will make 2 with buemi) is the real solution for the team...
Bring evolutions faster instead you idiots.

anyways that team seems to have such a poor drivers management.

If they are using Brandon hartley you might be in for a surprise. I was following him last season in F3 and he is silly quick, I kid you not.
