What do you think of rolling back the mileage?

I remember a 348 for sale on ebay maybe a year or year and half ago where the seller had such a problem and stated in the description of the car the odometer had been rolled back by the last owner, I can't remember how he found out, but sued the guy and won and was selling at a discount because of the high miles and he was awarded a nice judgment, so rolling back the odometer just for the sake of resale is fraud.

 

I would have thought that didn't need saying.

 

It can't. Anything can be abused and is. The fact remains it is a needed and required service, no different than picking locks. Odometers have been getting changed for the right and the wrong reasons since they were invented.

Why is everyones panties in a bunch now?

 

So, like I said: There are potential legitimate reasons for this, and obvious illegal possibilities. I don't think the guy offering the service is necessarily breaking the law, but clearly some of his clients might be attempting to.

I sent the advertiser a note through eBay Messages, suggesting that he join this discussion. He sent me back a message saying that he would. I'm eager to read what he has to say. . .

 

I'm in favor of rolling back the miles, but only if done the correct way: By putting the car in reverse. If you want to knock off 5 miles, then that's 5 miles in reverse.

At least it worked that way on Ferris Bueller's day off.

 

i understand that it is pretty easy to unhook the odometer on the earlier cars, but i would NEVER even stoop to that level. Everytime I see a 348/355 with less than 10,000 miles on it, the first thing i think of is odometer scam
