I have a 1997 355 with 16,000 mile with a check engine light on. An independent Ferrari service got codes for Cats, & O2 sensors. One cat was bad so both were replaced with hyper-flo's. Engine light came on again. I then brought the car to an authorized Ferrari dealership. It was determined that only 3 of the 4 O2 sensors was functioning. Upon examining the faulty sensor, the tech noticed that the wire assembly which was meant to be connected to it was dangling. He connected the wire and re-tested. All 4 sensors were now working perfectly. An hour into my trip back home the engine light comes on again. I checked to made sure that the wire assembly that he connected was still in place, which it was. Any ideas????

Buy a code scanner, so you can start scanning these yourself, and then post them here or give them to your technician.

Thank you. I will. I'm sure it will pay for itself in spades.

The code readers are very inexpensive these days. You can get them for less than $50 in places. Even though my 91 348 does not use one, the reader I bought has been very helpful for my other cars and the cars of my family and friends. It is nice to have the right tools for the job.

Do the standard code readers work on the 355? I thought there was a special Ferrari scan tool or is that for something else like to make actual adjustments to systems along with reading codes??

You can read the P-codes, and most of the sensor data...some will also allow you to graph the O2 sensor voltages. The Ferrari specifc products like SD-1 and SD-2 are needed for coding and resetting some things like the spider top mechanism, F-1 clutch engagement, etc.

But a standard OBDII compliant tool is invaluable for everyday stuff. Warning...unless you have had the update/campaign/recall performed on your car, you may not be able to read the codes with a standard OBDII scan tool. Ferrari skipped a needed ground wire in the OBDII plug on purpose. ;) But you can take it to any dealer with the VIN and confirm the update has been performed. If needed, they will fix it for free.

Gracias. If I knew where to get the single terminal I would do it myself (assuming it has not been done yet). No dealer real close around here :-(
