Husker, always liked this angle you shot of your 348........looks great!!!!!!!!:D
The 348 is a **** Ferrari because.... It's low on power (but still more powerful than the preceding V8 models ) It's badly made (ever seen an early classic Ferrari) A proper Ferrari has round headlights at the back (A corvette has round rear lights as well ) It's expensive to maintain (It's a FEEEERRAAAARRRRIIIII stoopid. Everything about them is expensive) You have to take the engine out to change the cambelts (Same as a 355. Plus it's easier to check things over when it's out) Luca Di What'shisname said it was a bad Ferrari (Yeah... and he thinks the California is beautiful. No accounting for taste) It's very bad at the limit (The Lotus Elise is worse on the limit. Besides, how many people take it to the limit anyway...apart from me that is ) People get 348's because they can't afford a a 355/360/430/etc (Many 348 onwers I know can easily afford more recent models) Time for some gratuitous 348 pics.... I loved my 348, it was a great car to drive...involving and fast enough...but who doesn't want more horsepower. I sold it with 82k miles, it's probably still running great!
That clutch housing peeking out from the bumper always reminds me of camel toe on a hot woman... such a turn on! Don't get me started on "pop up headlights"
Probably because you will get a good dose of honesty in the general Ferrari section (mixed in with the usual Internet 'experts'). Yes, a 348 is a "real Ferrari", but like all of them it has its problems, and relatively speaking 348s had more of them. They were not well made in many respects and have some plain dumb design decisions, ranging from inadequate OEM alternators and gearboxes to door latch mechanisms that seem weak. I am a huge Ferrari fan, and I like the stance and proportions of the 348. At current prices they're a lot of car for the money. But Ferrari made some mistakes, and the value is in part driven by that. I know several very happy 348 owners, so the gloom is probably overblown. Learn about the car and accept it for what it is. Now, if you want to feel better, park next to the F430 owner who paid $300,000 for his car a couple of years ago...
Agree with all of the above positive sentiments. Whenever I take my 348 out on the road, it never ceases to attract attention - more than any car I've ever owned (65 Buick Riviera, Jaguars, Alfas, et al). It's a great car to drive and a great car to look at. And I agree with wax in that 348's are sleepers in the $ future appreciation stakes.
Never lock your doors. Really, I just don't lock the car at all. If somebody wants to steal something I'd rather have them not break the window. If someone really wants to steal the car, a closed lock is not going to stop them anyway. Kai
I love my 1995 348, everything on it is 100% working. It gets lots of looks when I take it out and it gives me miles of smiles when I am on the road with her. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You don't read much on the 348 board. This is an easy DIY car I have proven it and so have many many others. Engine out allows easy access to do very precise maintenance. You try to read a dial guage and a degree wheel and move cams around in a 360 with the engine in...what a pain. Nothing is better than being able to comfortably work sitting or standing your choice...the 348 is a dream. We especially NoDoubt have found more cheaper alternative parts than just about anyone else. There is nowhere near the part availability on any other Ferrari like there is on the 348. Tbelts are less than 75 bucks, brake pads come in a set for all four wheels in the 100-150 dollar range even for R4 race pads! I did a homemade rebuilt clutch and raced it for years for a cost of 50 bucks. As a racecar I proved the 348 can take a spanking and like it! And I have dusted many an NSX. There is more to a performance car than 0-60 or a static G rating. In fact I just helped to rebuild a motor in a hot NSX. How would you like the NSX failing corroding engine block? I had to helicoil about 6 places just to get factory torque to bolt the engine back in. Ferrari has some amazing metalury in their castings.
I have been a mechanic all of my life. I worked my way through college as a motorcycle mechanic. I have to say that for some time, motorcycle engines have been ahead of car engines in technology. When I look at the 348 engine, I see many features that are very familiar to me. As an engineer, I appreciate some of the design work put into it. Nothing is perfect and as it has been stated, the 348 does have it's share of quirks but I am enjoying the hell out of not only driving mine but working on it as well. I always thought that working on a Ferrari on a Saturday afternoon would be fun. I am so happy that I was right. Even though the 30K mile service was done on my 348 right before I picked it up, part of me wishes I could have done it myself. Oh well, that joy is waiting for me down the road. As a Honda engineer, I was also on the GT road race team. We competed using the NSX with Comptech upgrades. It was a blast being on the race team and traveling around North America. The only problem was that we were competing against Vipers, Vettes, Porsches, etc. The 6 cyl engine had a hard time against the Vipers. I have always liked the NSX. But in the end, a Ferrari has always been my target car to own. My 348 may have it's flaws but I love it! I would also like to say that this is a great forum. So many people willing to help out any way they can. Good stuff.
the 348 is a nice car it does not cost much but looks better than almost all including 355 360 308 328 dino testerossa please r u blind i hv a sucessful life and 7 cars i have had a viper several vetted 2 porsches and i love my 348 this is my second one people say things to mk themselves feel better about their life its human nature
What happens when the teenage girl talking on the cell phone in her daddy's 330i automatic blows you away at the red light? Do you A: suffer a severe case of shrimpdickitis and make the next right before pulling at the next red light? B:Take the 348 to the next car wash because you know you'll be trading it in the next morning? C: Take it to shop because you just blew the manifolds off and the gearbox trying to race the girl again?
It is always entertaining to see someone jump on this forum with no info in their public profile and make a first post like this. It looks like the kids found the password to daddy's computer.
Where in the world did you come from? And for an individual who is on their 2nd 348, not to mention a car entusiast with that list of cars you have, it seems odd that this is your 1st post on FChat and with as little info about yourself as possible.
You better get back to your Camaro buddy! Thankfully school is starting again and these 12 year olds will be busy learning how to do short multiplication with a calculator. BT
Sadly the new Camaro (even with a 6 cylinder) will leave you and your gold chains in the proverbial dust..... with the top end V8..... well.... I think you have a better chance in a Prius (air conditioning turned off).
