    Fantastic story!!!
I never found a car like that!

Good luck on the work! Sounds like it was a "sweeeeeet" deal!
( but I whould change the belts first, are rubber, like the tires!)

I should have cleaned the windshield before I drove off, made it easier in the corners! (lol)

Keep us posted! sounds like a hell of an experience!!

The California DMV must have lost the paperwork. Tell them so.
Good work getting the car running. Cleaning the sticky residue on the interior pieces is an easy job. You can take the pieces out and use oven cleaner, or leave them in place an use Goof Off 2 (in the orange spray bottle). I recommend leaving the A/C vents in place as the plastic tabs that keep them in place get brittle and can easily break when you remove the vents. When you use the Goof Off 2 you just spray a small area at a time, and use loads of Qtips to clean the mess off. About 300 Qtips should be good for the whole job, and wear rubber gloves to keep that crap off your hands!!!

Strong word of caution- If the tires are shot/cracking, you better be extemely cautious of running her with out changing the timing belt. That belt snaps (or pieces break off) you will be so far upside down you will be gasping for air...

You seem to like jumping right in- do the belt service NOW. Looking at car condition & judging owner the belt has never been done since it was sold new I would venture to say....

Do the belt, you will take much risk out of the equation once thats behind you....

    my 2 cents..

    Congrats on the find,
    Chris

If this was the case, would it not be discovered via the VIN as soon as the new owner registered?

Well this site http://www.my348.com/348.html our 348 Brother, No Doubt, put together has link to a whole lots of info you will find handy.

But please, before you do anything else...............CHANGE THE TIMING BELT. :D The condition that thing was in when you got it leads my to believe that you could have the original timing belt STILL on it. Especially since you said the rubber on the tires is dried out and cracked.

Great story! Now please tell us what you paid for it! :D We are waiting to find out if this is a truly classic story of the mythical "found this awesome car in a barn for cheap" or is this the sequel to "The Money Pit". ;) Good luck!

PS. Change those belts before you start it again!!! Listen to the wisdom on this forum. They know what they are talking about.
