Maybe it lost its bumper in "saving weight"? I thought I had seen 308s without rear bumpers, but dont recall it looking like that? PDG
I would say a hack job. Any thoughts on what that wire coming from the engine cover plate on the rear bonnet is??
I think I recognize the pictures of the old WW2 Airship Operations (blimp) building.....he has posted here. No first hand knowledge of the car, sorry........
Just my opinion...those wheels look totally out of proportion for the car and are much too shiny. notgood dot com
Funny, but omitting the rear bumper did cross my mind at some point. My car's way too good for such operations, but with a Euro valance I think it could look good. The wheels on this car are way over the top, it needs proper louvres for the rear quarters, steering wheel looks like a ricer, and yes, I was also thinking about that wire.... Does it go faster with that red intake plenum?
That rear is just awful, I recon that the wire is for the radio control so you don't actually have the drive the thing
1) The wheels are all wrong for that car, but usually the 16" wheels are replaced on these cars anyway. Later 308 wheels would fit this car and look fine. 2) I have no trouble with the red heads and intake plenum, but I know that's not original. A car with 58,000 miles is probably not going to win at the Concours anyway. 3) The steering wheel cover is easily removed and the wheel itself looks original. (The damage that might be lurking UNDER the cover is another matter.) 4) It's a GTS with GTB-mimicking rear window louver. I appreciate the sentiment, but never thought these looked quite right. 5) The car has likely been repainted; the absence of the black beltline looks BAD, and makes me wonder what other surprises the photos don't reveal. 6) The most egregious: Something tragic has happened to the rear, and I have no idea how much money and effort it would take to make it right. Bottom line: Considering its mileage in combination with the abuse it's suffered, I wouldn't pay more than about $15k for it.
I would suspect its been crashed and someone wanted to 'personalize' it. And especially since the rear clip was probably torn off they perceived it as a prime opportunity. my 2c Mike
A rear bumper is actually pretty helpful if you actually drive your car (and occasionally leave it parked on the street for a few hours) - not having one will result in some scratches and minor dents gratis of those who parallel park using the brail method. Love those 22's! Just need some spinners to go with them now. Yo Yo Snoop Dog, you dig?
I am always amazed by manner in which people choose to ruin these wonderful cars. What is it about the 308 that attracts wackos to cut, chop, remove, discolor, ruin, and abuse? They just can't help themselves from ruining a great body line. Such a shame!
At the very least I am pulling for the 308 market going up dramatically just for the fact that cars like this one will be put back "right" one day. I am sick of seeing these things.
Tom, I need a new Ducati ST3 and the Prototype Boxer BB512, if you want my red (actually OEM blue) #20405, I need some cash..more than $20K though.... If I ever catch the guy that stole my SSN and ruined my credit he's TOAST!
