    ......just what I need now......

Since my gear box was out a couple of months ago.....I changed the oil.......of course.

Now, just checking the dip stick to see if the level was ok......what happened...????

I got the dip stick up ok.......but with the thread of the gear box at the same time.

Guess it was tightened a little bit too much and the vibrations did the rest.

Gear box out again and turn it up side down......drill the hole one size bigger and make a new thread?????

.......or anyone got a better idea?????

Dipstick is back again with lots of tape.......just to keep it in place but I do not know for how long that will last......maybe only a couple of miles.....who knows.....

    What to do.......????

    Thanks in advance!

Mine was stripped out by the previous owner. The dipstick was kept in the glove box and a bolt was put in the hole. During my gearbox rebuild this past winter (a bad synchro), we installed a timesert. Works great...like a helicoil but less likely to break.

    www.timesert.com for details.

......they are available here as well....however I would like to know what the actual thread is called......

Can´t find the proper one ........some special italian thread or what????

We have tried M12, UNC, UNF, and a special thread type used by plummers.......nothing fits.....

Thought I´d just put a bolt in there since the thread further down the hole is ok and I only check the oil level a couple of times per year anyway.
