Operation: Red Flag - Have you participated?

From talking to ex-Luftwaffe pilots and reading some accounts from WW2 it was obvious that respect for your adversary and a bit of old knighthood remained in the cadre of the Luftwaffe. Certainly not with the SS and some factions in the Wermacht. As I get on in years I realize more and more that there were special people who did legendary things that are inconceivable to the current generations. I have doubts that it could be repeated.

I don't feel like hunting down references right now but little of the footage was shot from an actual fighters. Most of it was done from a specially rigged camera plane (light business jet of some type) and in some cases they used CGI to put in fighter parts to make at appear as if it were shot from the real thing. I seem to recall there were complaints when the film first came out that the footage was "fake".

Back in the mid '80's, Avaition Week did a film on Red Flag. I have the VHS somewhere. The AvWeek documentary is the real deal - no fake footage, no cheesy narration.
