It may have been Tilman, but I'm not positive.

Some people have mentioned maintaining a register again but it has not happened.

I've started working on re organising the info on this thread at the moment - in my few and far between moments of idle time. Actually I was going to ask if there are any credits etc I should acknowledge in doing this or is it considered all "in the public domain"

Once I have it done I'll put it up for corrections as I'm sure many cars have changed hands/addresses since the beginning.

It seems like a useful resource for the community - I'm not really clear why it stopped being updated....anyone?

The originator of this thread sold his 328 many years ago and moved on to other pursuits.

My web version was searchable and had pictures that I found on the 'net that I could positively link to a VIN. It turns out that certain people don't like information about accidents (major accidents!) and mileage published if those facts don't match what they're saying in an advertisement. Since it was just a hobby and I didn't have the time, money or inclination to fight folks with lawyers, I pulled it from public view.

A later database server crash at the host combined with poor backup testing on their part destroyed what had been there.

This thread keeps popping back up. I supposed some interested insomniac could cut-n-paste their way to a new version.

hi Mark, I'm working on a database for my web site that will automatically keep track of the 328 registry..manually updating it seems so stone age nowadays ..i'll post here when I finally get it up & running..eventually lol

Sounds great - databases/updates are not really my primary skills so if you are doing this it would be very helpful. Is there any information you need? I've periodically collected a few vins and details whenever i come across them .

The last registry seemed to fold when objections about privacy etc started coming up. Whats your thought on covering this poss problem?

Also your website is 328gts.com - are you going to cover the tin tops as well?

yes it will include GTB's & as for privacy the database will be voluntary....anyone who wants their cars listed will have to log in & fill in the form & if they want add a picture of their car ..it will not include any personal information about the owner at all....I'll probably put in a field stating where the car currently resides i.e City/Country though...

 

Jsut to clarify -- the old registry didn't include any publicly identifiable information about owners. Just the VIN, pics, known history (ebay, sales, location by city/state) etc. The other info was there but not reachable via the interface.

Just the VIN + pictures was enough to trigger threats. It wasn't about privacy, it was about hiding information that had been previously published elsewhere.

Perhaps it is best to not list names of owners and don't include full VIN numbers and you should not run into any issues. Without a full VIN (I'd like to see someone GUESS the other missing 11 digits!) or owner's name there is no way to trace the car without resorting to some form of already illegal activity. Besides, if someone really wants to find you, THEY WILL FIND YOU with or without this info. Perhaps those afraid of such a scenario should not be driving around in a Ferrari! Stick with an F150 pickup for complete anonymity.

Out of 4800+ 328's in my list I found one. It was the car one place ahead of yours on the production line, 61013.

Wow great looking classic... of course this is coming from someone also from the Toronto area with a 1989 328 Euro Spec GTB Red/Tan #79603 maybe next spring espresso with our cars should be in order.

 

Now that is something I look forward to. What could be finer??
Spring can't get here fast enough.
