Having already said the scenario was unlikely, Michael Schumacher's manager has now categorically ruled out an imminent return to Formula One for the retired champion.

The 40-year-old has been linked with injured Felipe Massa's Ferrari seat for the forthcoming European Grand Prix and beyond, and triple world champion Niki Lauda for one would like to see it happen.

"Who else?" the great Austrian said at the Hungaroring on Sunday. "There is nobody available anywhere near Michael's performance."

Lauda dismissed Ferrari's test drivers Luca Badoer and Marc Gene as "useless", and slammed suggestions the recently ousted Sebastien Bourdais might be a possibility.

"What do you want to do with Bourdais? I can drive (rather than him)," Lauda said. "Honestly. He is a waste of time - there is no way Ferrari would even consider him when he couldn't perform in a Toro Rosso against Buemi.
    "

However, as Schumacher issued a message of best wishes for his friend and former team-mate Massa on Sunday, the German's manager put a stop to the rising speculation.

"That Michael is going to make a comeback is ruled out," Willi Weber told Bild newspaper.

The newspaper, raising the possibility that under-fire Renault driver Nelson Piquet might be another possibility, added that Schumacher no longer possesses a Formula One superlicence.

Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni said in Hungary: "For that sort of thing (speculation) it is much too early."

Edit : I must say, those are really strong words from Niki Lauda. I suppose he forgot his attempt to 'drive' a Jaguar around Silverstone few years ago...

I find it very hard to believe that Shumi no longer possesses a Formula One superlicence?

David colthard is still tied to Red Bull, so it wont be him...

    Who is out there?

To be honest, I would not rule out Bourdais. I feel if Gené does not get the seat, Bourdais is the leading candidate. Teams this year, especially, are very keen to bring someone in without experience (good example is Barichello over Senna, and holding onto Bourdais to start the season, and the exception thus far being Alguersuari), and having driven a car under the 2009 rules, Bourdais has a leg up on everyone else.

MS coming back for the rest of the season would give F1 the boost that it needs. The last 2 races were empty and to add him along with Alonso, LH, Kimi, Webber, Vettel, and a good Brawn team would surely be exciting to watch.

    I don't know,
Seeing Schumi struggling in the middle pack in a F60 that won't evolve anymore, not sure it would be such a blast.

$12.5M/race for the remainder of the season... ($100M to finish the season)

I doubt Schumacher would make an appearance mid season after over a year out of a f1 car. He's a highly competitive person who trained like a mad man every off season to get ready for the coming season. he wouldn't climb into a race car unless he's tested in it and in peak physical condition. I'm sure he would do alright but Schumi wanted nothing but the best from himself.

I find this article a bit weird, IMO. I mean who the hell would sign PK Jr? Plus, Schumi really doesn't have his superlicense anymore? Either way, MS never tested the F60 before, so doubt we'll see him in action, altho, i would like to.

Speaking of, have the test drivers even got the feel of the F60 before?

That's what I was going to say. Maybe at some point when Schumi is elderly and can barely see, they could request that he reapply. But come on guys.

I can't help but think that maybe they're gonna put Alonso in? Perfect way to get him into a Ferrari seat, and have Kimi retire at the end of the season.

Precisely. Love him or hate him, it's probably because he'll do whatever it takes to win, and a person with that mentality isn't likely to just jump in and give a shot for a couple 'o races in an unfamiliar car after time off.

It would be pitiful to Kimi's career to end on this note and even more pitiful if it was put into motion by a freak accident involving Massa. I would hope perhaps Kimi is motivated by this to step up and bring glory to the team now that there is NO ONE else at Ferrari that can do it.

Kimi has proven himself many times to be one of the fastest of all around the track, although not always the total package and prone to lose motivation. But he is extremely quick and I think someone of his talent should stick it out until he gets at least one more WDC.

Drivers apply to get their superlicense at the beginning of every season, after testing. They have to complete a certain amount of km I believe. That's why that whole spat broke out about the increased fees for their superlicense, since they have to get it every year and the fee would go up in proportion to how many points you got the previous season.
