Does the general non car enthusiast public even really understand what Ferrari is and represents. I bet if you asked twenty people on the street, 10 wouldn't even recognize the brand as a car.

Have you ever seen "Jaywalking" on The Tonight Show? I have no concern about what the average person knows or cares about. Should I be worried that I have no idea who the latest Hollywierd drama entails? Some would consider me ignorant for that.

NO.......the general public has no clue about cars of any marque. There are car people and non-car people. My Mom and I were waiting for our cars at a private function recently. It was held at a home in a fancy part of town. A guy pulls up in a Mondial and my Mom asked if it was my new Ferrari......To her there is no difference between a 308 and a 430.....she HONESTLY can't see why my 430 cost 200K+ and a 308 can be bought for a tenth of that.

I agree that most people know that Ferrari is a car, but that's it.

As someone already mentioned, it is one of the highest recognition brand names BUT these days unfortunately I think that just means it's seen as an expensive and therefore fashionable lable. Ask many of the modern owners "who's Enzo" and they'd probably look blank...

A Ferrari is a car but not all cars are Ferrari's. For that matter, not all cars are cars. Some can be referred to as a POS.

I know that a lot of people over here can't recognize specific models...but everyone (almost) can recognize a Ferrari!

Even all 10-year-olds scream "FERRARRARRRII!!!!" when one goes by :D

    +1 on both.

People can tell you everything about "X" celebrity, but they can't say the alphabet.

The less people that know about Ferrari, the better, imo.

I cringe everytime one of my friends calls himself a "car guy", let alone talk about Ferrari's or Lambo's. I rarely ever heard him mention anything about cars growing up, then all the sudden *poof* he's a "car guy". Maybe he is to a certain extent, but I actually think he's what I would call a materialistic car guy.

This reminds me of some comments made by my brother-in-law's wife, after they had spent a week in Miami. She knew I "liked cars," so she exclaimed to me,

"...and you should have seen all of these cars down there -- they all had SHIELDS on them, and they looked like SHUTTLES!!"

(after a few minutes of questioning, I confirmed that she had seen the Scuderia shields on the fenders of some Ferraris, and shuttles meant that the cars were swoopy and aerodynamic like space shuttles . . . ) Oh to live in the west side suburbs of Cleveland . . . ;)

I don't need to wear depends, therefore I'm continent...

I think by and large Ferrari has quite good brand recognition in the USA, but there will certainly be folks who are oblivious.

Most people will know what a Ferrari, Lambo, or Porsche is. But they won't know what makes each car so great and how they're different from normal cars and from each other. To them it's just an expensive car, which is probably perfectly fine for the owners of these cars, just so they can savor the moment when they do a hard acceleration away and leave the people speechless. (Until I started getting in these cars I did not know it was possible for cars to sound like Ferraris or Lambos).

For my 2 year old son, all red cars are papa-auto.
Flipping through a Ferrari-book together he was constantly saying "papa-auto" and I was going "I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish, yes papa-auto, I wish, I wish, I wish..."

I'd have to imagine to the general public the word "Ferrari" passes the "grandmother test" - in other words would your grandmother know what it is (as opposed to say asking your grandmother what "Bluetooth" meant).

To most casual observers (remember these kids are too young for Magnum PI now), Ferrari's are what they see on "Entourage" and what Eddie Griffin crashed.

I do agree that kids riding bikes will always know the difference between a Ferrari and everything else, even a Porsche and Corvette.
