The new 458 looks pretty dang good! So I wanted to get an opinion in the 'non-model specific' section as to which previous 'standard' v8 models does it look like most ..... :)!!

I tried to find pics that represented each successive model in fair light and in similar orientation ...... ;)

The 458 is that last picture (obviously) ...... :)

One can pick more than one answer, in case one is torn between choices.

In case one is wondering why the enzo and p4/5 are not listed ....... please reference post #6.

    that's a great progression!

I think it most looks like the 360, with elements of the Enzo, P4/5, and some vintage Fcars in there too.

You didn't even give them option of P4/5 and Enzo. Those two for sure.

Yep. I don't think it looks much like anything on your list unless you're speaking very vaguely (like they all have a swoopy design and 4 wheels). The cockpit of this car is pushed so much more farther forward than any of the previous 3 or 4 series cars it's difficult to say it looks "similar".

    I concur.

Although in profile it looks a bit like a 360/F430 after Jenny Craig.

EDIT: It's amazing how getting rid of the rear fender scoop and adding a character line before the rear wheel just transforms the design.

EDIT EDIT: I would rate the 458 as third best in your photo gallery:

    1. 328
    2. 355
    3. 458
    4. 308
    5. 348
    6. 360/F430 (tie)

Yes but the enzo and p4/5 are too obvious a match  ......... and since the 458 is a mid-mounted v8 model ....... it must be compared to previous mid-mounted v8 models ......... ;)

I don't think it looks like any of those choices.

It looks nice and low now but I bet it will have about a 3" wheel gap once it gets to the US, then it might look a little more like the F430.

I'm convinced that people factor in the 348's unremarkable performance when assessing its styling. I swear if that car performed like the F430, people would consider it one of the most attractive V8 Ferraris. But people know of its faults and can't look past that when making judgements on its styling. A lot like the dumb pretty girl who you stay away from because you'll never have a meaningful conversation. :D

Again I will say the 360 will age gracefully. The 430 not so much, but will still be desired because of reliability (with six speed manual).

I didn't vote because to me it looks heavily influenced by the P4 and not directly to the models in the poll. I can see how it derived from the F430 even if the chassis has nothing to do with it, so of course we see some Enzo Ferrari lines in it, but the end result is that it reminds me of P4 or P4/5 as the main influence with little taken from anything else.

I was gonna put that one in but I figured it was covered by the 308/328 ............ similar to CS covered by 360 and Scud covered by 430 ....... :)

Of that list, the resemblence between the front end of the 360 and 458 sticks outs the most for me. Those rims help make it look 360'ish' also. A lot of Enzo and P4/5 too though (as stated multiple times...)

Not sure about that. People adore the 328 and 308, neither of which will outrun a 348. And people swoon over the 190 bhp Dino 246, which won't outrun a Schwinn.

BTW, I rated the 348 and 360/F430 lower on that list, but I'd still rate them all in the 95th percentile of cars I'd want to own. Saying the 348 or 360 are below average in the Ferrari V8 lineup is akin to your girlfriend was the 9th runner up in the Miss USA pageant. A Ferrari is a Ferrari, etc.

The trouble is her sisters are fast and gorgeous. ;)

My immediate reaction was it looks like a swoopy, smaller Enzo. It is a big break from previous V8 designs. I think the 360/430 series are much tauter, simpler designs. I'll wait until I actually see one to make a more firm judgement.

I don't see how it looks like an Enzo in any way, other than the red.

I also don't think it borrows heavily from any of its predecessors (like the 430 did, for example), but in my opinion it shares more with the 308 than anything else. I really like, though, that it has no vents on the side... first one in this line without 'em.

It's not a direct translation of the Enzo, but if you look at the rear fender contours they have the slightly squared-off look of the Enzo, and the rear view has an Enzo-ish profile.

The balance of the car is a lot smoother, though.
