The spyder will look so good, they are not crazy not to make it!
I think a GTS (targa top) is more likely. Look at the bubble top camo in this old post. It's obviously trying to hide something new with the top. It is taped up all the way to the glass on all sides. It's clearly not a spider. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138787627&postcount=1826
Here's another Spyder P-Shop by the talented Jon Sibal. It will be interesting to see how well the lines of the 458 will translate onto a Spyder. There is a lot going on in the rear quarter without the hardtop. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not everyone questioned the need for the 16M - it is a niche car where the total production number was in line with demand. I do question the demand when a tiny market like Hong Kong got an allocation of 25 16M's. There is no question that Ferrari will produce Spiders - the only question is whether or not one of them will be based on the 458 in the same way as the 430 Spider was based on the 430. I vote that it will not be.
If they do a spider, I wonder where the air intakes for the engine will be.... I have not seen that essential item comprehended in any of the PS
Wow the 458 bodywork is killer! I love how the back kind of looks like the P 4/5. You know the performance is going to be astonishing too...
Exactly what I was thinking. The side rear window really is a bit off on an otherwise nice looking car (the coupe i.e). A rag top would make it look better. Now if they only could revise the front bumper......... If they did that I might look into getting my first convertible in a few years. -Peter Oh
I saw a ps of the 458 with the scud front on it. Could someone handy with ps put that on the spider? TIA -Peter Oh
If Bugatti managed to produce a Veyron spider - anything's possible. The Gallardo, R8, Scuderia all eventually turn up in Spider form - I believe (excluding the Scuderia/16M - the F430 sold more spiders than berlinettas). The only different ingredient here is how many would-be Spider buyers will opt for the practicality of the California instead. I saw a few in the South of France and whilst we can debate the looks - it does seat 4 for short distances - the 458 never will. We can't read too much into the 16M - sales of the F430 were clearly slowing and the success of the Scuderia clearly showed where the oportunity lay to milk the end of the F430 Spider production run.
Of course anything is possible. I am simply saying that it is my opinion that the 458 Spider is not in the cards now and Ferrari have a different plan for their Spider line up
I was thinking the same thing .. maybe a Porsche style Targa with sliding glass panel. Interesting DM .. I'm intrigued with what they have planned as it's hard to see them walking away from such a revenue earner based off 360/430 Spider sales and relying purely on that ugly beast (sorry I mean California).
Agree. I am a big Spider fan (was consistently flamed in the very early days of the Scuderia Spider) and am hoping for the best
Sure, let the 599 have a sliding glass roof - but let the 458 have a true targa top - circa 325/348/355!!! Bring back the true targa!
Would someone be good enough to p.s a black softop to this pic. TIA -Peter Oh Image Unavailable, Please Login
If the spider turns out to have this profile, eliminating the sharp window angle shape towards the rear, I think we have a winner. -Peter Oh Image Unavailable, Please Login
There you go. Looking at the berlinetta design there should be room for an engine air feed vent to be left beside the fabric roof if the shape of the roof follows the curve of the glass on the rear side window. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks a lot! I think eliminating the sharp end of the rear side window, makes it look really nice. Since it seems there wont be a spider until 2 years into the 458 production, perhaps we can wish for a revised front bumper when it debuts? -Peter Oh
