458 Design

I think it's OK to profess admiration for a car that you're not going to buy.

I can understand how owning a 360 and 430 would shape your opinion. I have a 328 and I think it's the last visually interesting V8 Ferrari made, so we're all biased.

IMHO, a design weakness of the 360/430 is that they look bulkier than they ought to, especially in back. But I will give Pininfarina credit for the 458. They seem to have solved that problem and come up with something that looks more lithe. Whether the mirrors, or tail lights, or triple exhaust, etc., are the best ever, I don't know. But on the whole it seems like the 458 is the first new Ferrari since the 355 to be widely admired from day one.

As far as my qualifications for being allowed to express opinions, the answer is yes, I could afford to buy a new Ferrari for cash.

So you own those, that's great, awesome, spectacular. I'm happy for you. I didn't realize that ownership of a car brand was required to have an opinion. I guess since I don't own one means you think I shouldn't be a member of this forum either? Doesn't negate the fact I've been a fan my entire life.

Not everyone can afford a Ferrari, especially when I'm 27. FCars have arrived to everyone on this board at different times in their lives. That doesn't make anyone more or less important, nor does it make their appreciation/interest of Ferrari (or anything else) any less important.

Don't take things so seriously. But, when you share your opinion, expect others to share theirs.

 

I agree that the mirrors on the doors look stupid. And also that the car will look best in black...but I want one!

 

Funny that you mention the mirrors, because those were what I thought of first when I saw the press pictures... I think they have the potential to be a little more crazy (something like LP640).

Without that I could understand how it makes it harder to know I was just kidding around.

 

If the 458 had painted CS mirrors (same window location too) and no 'blingy' LEDs in the head light area ............ the 458 would be even better looking and completely 'unimprovable' IMO .....

 

Then again, maybe it is ...

 

When I saw the first spy pics of the 458 I had problems with the door mounted mirrors as they looked rather bulky to me. Now, after having seen the final design, I absolutely like them. This is because of several reasons:

- they turn out better than in the spy pics
- it is something new, something fresh, even if it's only mirrors
- they somehow remind me of the mirrors of the Enzo, though its mirrors are placed upon the fenders
- door mounted mirrors will definitely improve visibility from inside the car
- finally I think they fit perfectly to the new design of the 458

You have no idea what you are talking about. I know some of the people who are posting in this thread and they can easily afford any Ferrari they want. Look who's "negative" here,go back to your original post and reread it.
Don't assume anything about others here,most had and will have more Ferraris then you can dream of.

 

This thread reminds me of GatesGate., with RichardCH as Skip and TexasF355F1 as the investigating Officer. Texas enters Richard's house displaying some flippant condescension (*yawn*) and Richard overreacts with more than a little classicism. Then the whole thing snowballs.

Cooler heads need to prevail and beers should be exchanged.
