Hey Mac... I'm a Triathlete too... and I haul around 210 lbs... but I just rode a Century last weekend. I was in BJ last year too... and SH... SZ...and HK. Wish I was in Sanya now. I would never show up at a Concours show in those wheels... but I am interested in knowing how the rest of the car would be judged. I know that an Atlanta FCA guy has done a lot of stereo work and still enters shows... as some updating is tolerated... as long as it's in good taste. I think that the rear enclosure is done in a good Ferrari style as it looks like the dash... and I think that the front door enclosures might also be OK... since it's original Ferrari (Wilton Wool)carpet... but the sub would have to go and the spare tire would have to replace it for sure. Do we have some Concours judges here? What's the latest thoughts? MP3 players OK? Video?
weight alone all that crap is like 2 to 300 hundred pounds ..... then those rims.......... dolce and gabbanna ...HELLO. Maybe you can get a job at that carnival. lol I kid I kid but if you know anything about this site you know people were going to jump all over you.
All you "the motor is the only music I need" people have obviously never driven across several states at a stretch. The motor just isn't that interesting at a constant drone, especially at the 3000-4000 RPM a 3x8 would use at close-to-legal speeds.
Wow...I mean wow! Add a big rear wing, curb feelers, 24" wheels and a set a spinners...and this car will win at any concours event! And those ladies "admiring" your car were really thinking "What knucklehead would butcher his Ferrari with all this bling crap. Doesn't he know the Honda Civic show was last week?" Nice workmanship....wrong car.
Wow! I'm thinking "headphones" would have been easier......... One of my cars has the "ball" spaekers on the rear deck, and by the third day crossing the country, I faded them out....... I am in awe of your fabrication skillz..but my seat is all the way back on the rails, and has to stay there.....
This is very true. I may be in the minority here, but I have to come to hate driving my car for long distances on the highway. There are far better cars suited for this activity. I don't think the solution is a bunch of subwoofers. You could put a small conservative system in the stock holes that would give you enough sound to offset the endless highway drone. Would I do it, no...I like everything just as it was in 1986, but I can understand those who make these conservative upgrades. This guy, however, has sailed way over the top. Although I might not have been this harsh, I agree with this sentiment...particularly in regards to that Sub under the bonnet. Somewhere there is a Toyota Supra that wants its stereo back.
Hey, it's always cool to meet another triathlete. Well done on the century, by the way. I can't wait to get back to America and back on my bike. As for concours, I don't know anything about it. I'm a lowly college student, so no F-car yet. I was just joking around because I imagine the judges at those types of events are pretty extreme purists and would not be happy with many mods aimed at a stereo. I know it hurts some people to see what you've done, but I say make it what you want, man. It's not what I would do, but how anyone can tell you its a waste to add stereo equipment is beyond me. Its your car, your money, and your dream, so do whatever suits you. To me the real waste is the garage queens; at least you appear to drive your car.
dont get me wrong. I listen to my ipod on my OEM Scuderia deck that I put in my car. But that is it. ITs plenty loud and works great. but to go this far .... i dont know. I have to say on a car this old it makes it look even worse. Like you want to have a car that new but you could not get it and instead you put a bunch of amps and speakers in and some rims and now some how this helps it out. Also I have done stuff to my car but its all oem and you would not be able to tell the difference. sorry just my way of looking at it.
Geeeze, and I cringed a little when I put red spark plug wires on the engine, instead of the normal white! Dude, I gotta laugh and you really need to be doing this on a Honda. All that giant speaker in the front is going to do is vibrate the paint off your hood! John
Not my cup of tea, but nice craftsmanship and enjoy YOUR car and YOUR hardwork to make it what you want to be!
Needs more Ferrari logos just to make sure nobody misses that it's a Ferrari! Maybe some Ferrari logo mats, covers, hat, jacket, cologne, etc. Seriously, if you want to go this route at least ditch all the logos everywhere. It's your car to do what you want but having it plastered with logos on every inch really screams poseur and detracts from what you are trying to build. Unless of course you are a rapper or want to work at Unique. If so, then carry on playa!
...at least he did it with PASSION!! That's all that matters, man. The Pasta Maker had very little passion, IMO........
Interesting. I wonder how it would sound with the subs in the front of the car instead of the usual back.
The sub in the front will have the same sound as the sub in the back. It has to do with the length of the sound waves, it sounds the same no matter where it is in the car. I did see it at the Italian Festival and I sure can't fault the workmanship but I wonder about the actual sound quality of the car. Too many speakers, when you are dealing with the harmonics of a car you will run into a phase cancellation problem. The sound waves bounce off of the interior at all different angles and will actually cancel each other out. More speakers will sometimes sound worse or be quieter than fewer speakers in the correct placements. If you are going for a true sound stage and proper sound placement. You will need to get rid of the pods behind your heads. They will destroy a proper sound stage. If you just want it to be loud then they will do just fine, but being loud and sounding good are different things. Get a good recording of an orchestra with a map of the lay out of the instruments in the liner notes and you should be able to play it, close your eyes and point to the location that the horn section, for example, is coming from. With that many speakers it will be all over the place and not defined well. Also, it should sound like the orchestra is on your dash. I'm guessing you won't be able to pin point anything. I have been out of the business for a long time now but when I did I liked to build simple systems that sounded good. One amp, one sub and good component sets up front, unless you have a big car there is no need for rear fill. (none of the orchestra is behind you) I give you all the credit in the world, it is really easy to pay someone to do the work for you it takes real balls to take a crack at it yourself. There are some rookie mistakes here but all in all a good effort. My .02 I would recover the door pods in tan leather, I think it would match the car better. Nice overall job though.
I always admire anybody that displays great workmanship and ingenuity. My F car is not a daily driver so I care less about music. However, several of my other cars have high end after market sound systems installed. Kudos for doing it all yourself. Your car, your decision. Enjoy. Kai
Agreed, however it is so much easier to put in a pair of earbuds and keep them at a level that allows hearing outside noises.
I like it. Good looking car, good craftsmanship, makes you happy. Enjoy your summer! By the way, I used to be a lifeguard at the Montrose pool long ago before all of that strip mall construction. Montrose used to be the edge of town.
I have to pick out some idiots to answer... you're the biggest idiot... so you get a reply first. When I'm driving this car... I have to look around hard to see anything out of the ordinary. The front bonnet is closed... so there's no sign of the amps or sub... the door enclosures are discrete... covered in the same carpet as the car... no bright foberglass work saying "Look at me". And... the rear enclosures look like Ferrari did them. I had a Ferrari owner at a car sho ask if that was a Ferrari option... no ****. So you must be talking about the wheels. How is it that you think HRE makes money... selling $3,000 wheels to Honda Owners? That's BLING? This car is just personalized... with no damage to anything Ferrari. Some idiots... like you... just like to hear themselves. If this job is that offensive to you... tell the moderator that you have my permission to get my address... So come tell me in person how Bling I am... flippin IDIOT!
It still is the edge... west of me is nothing. LeBron skewed the average price of a home by building a $23 million home in a hood of $400,000 homes... wanted to build close to his buds. Why he didn't build up in Bath... Top-o-the-Hill area... is beyound us. We get to see part of his stable every so often... 3-4 F-Cars... all modified... most are on YouTube. Thanks!
