These guys got it exactly right. You worked hard to get your car, so don't be confined by the culture of F-car ownership if it holds you back from having as much fun as possible. Also, you might want to watch out for threatening people. I don't think you meant much by it, but telling someone to come to your house and say something to your face might result in a suspension and/or ban. Just a thought...
Interior: The interior looks pretty much like any other 308/328 except when the 7 TFT Screen is up. I still have some issues to iron out with the Pyle Tech Support people. They dont know how their equipment operates or why. The screen comes out every time you turn the unit on before it knows what you want to do. You dont really need a screen to tune to a radio station but the screen shows the Radio Station info if it is up. You dont need the screen if you are listening to a CD and the single line LEDs show what you are listening to. You also dont need the screen to listen to your iPod or MP3 player as they have screens. I can see having the screen up for the SD Card and the USB Drive as neither has a screen and the careen shows the playlist. I do not plan to watch DVDs (remember, I stole this unit from another application because the fader in the old head unit would not work with amps only speakers) and I still get the error, Warning, This function cannot be performed while driving even though I have power running to the parking brake lead. Issues: Maybe I could use some advice here From REAL Ferrari owners who want to offer an opinion instead of hearing themselves tell us all how great they are for not having a stereo and how fortunate they are for listening to that mundane sound of an engine on a highway at a constant 3,000 RPM. And from members who know what a crossover is. I have temporarily located the crossovers behind the passenger seat. They are out of the way and only visible when the seat is leaned forward but I have two other ideas. Put two under the front of the driver and passenger seats where your butt doesnt bottom out. Build a thinner box out of aluminum nuke the plastic and put then all under the passenger seat. The front crossovers are even bigger and I have located them in front of the console under the dash. I could keep then there Or put them under the fronts of the seats but not them plus 2 of the rear crossovers. I have not yet decided whether to use the Ferrari Power antenna switch or automate it but I am leaning towards using the manual switch in the console... as the head unoit would have the antenna up all the time. One more issue... again for members who know what I am talking about... not those who just like to hear themselves... Equalization: The Rront speakers are Boston Pro-Series, 6.53, 3-way components. The 6" bass drivers are rated to 50 Hz. The 4.5" midrange drivers are rated to 85 Hz... and the tweeter up to 22 KHz. The Rear speakers are Boston Pro-Series, 4.5, 2-way components. The 6" bass drivers is the same as the front midrange... 4.5" rated to 85 Hz... and the tweeters are also the same. So... if you want to crank the bass slightly in the rear speakers... you are cranking the midrange in the front! Not very desirable! I need Separate Equalization! Not sure how I can do that without 2 more components... 2 under dash equalizers... because if you use only one and use the head unit... it still does both anyway. Maybe... using the head unit to boost the front bass in the 50-80 Hz range (that will not affect the rear)... and ONE separate equalizer to tune the rears... would work. Only the Balupunkt Bremen head unit can do separate front and rear equalization... but it does not have built in inputs for an MP3 player... OR USB... OR SD.... as it's an older model. Alpine is out... as I talked to them... Any ideas?
I'm all for upgrading the stock speakers (+ headunit to one that can connect with an ipod) if they're rubbish (like they likely will be in a 20+ year old car), but i'm not a big fan of adding a whole subwoofer thing with huge amps etc. Not a big fan of concourse either since it seems a bit pointless to me so no points lost there. After all, it is rockn's own car and he can take the chromes off when he sells it and the speakers too.
I love it a fantastic looking 328, great colour and i love the wheels, why knock it? it is his car and he can do to it what he wants? i am sure most owners personalize their cars to some extent?
Perfect set up for creepin in da hood. Whatever floats your boat, those that are upset its only a 328 not as if its a collectable rare Ferrari that's worth a lot, so too each his own.
I have had my 328 for three years and have never turned on the stereo. i don't plan to. It's not because i can't appreciate music, i have a pretty sick system in my truck and house. My opinion of this modification is simply that it is doing the wrong thing with the wrong car. Sort of like putting huge chrome rims and extremely low profile tires on a Hummer. Silly really. Seems almost heretical. You will be shunned and talked about behind your back at any gathering of italian exotics, not to mention this site. you are not tifosi. Now, before you get your panties in a bunch and defend your decision by telling us how great you are, remember that you came on this forum looking for opinions. This is an open, public forum and you have to be ready for opinions you do not agree with. Especially considering your unconventional use of what some consider a piece of automotive art. Another analogy would be tagging the mona lisa. But my guess is that is exactly what you are going for and you get a certain amount of enjoyment out of pissing off more conventional Ferrari owners and lovers. Hence your thread here and your responses. So please don't come off with some faked shock at the responses. You expected, and i'm sure, welcome them. Having said all that, it's your car and you can do whatever you want with it. In the end, it's just a car. Me, i would have gotten a supra if i planned on doing that.
i disagree. i think if he wanted to show off his work and get some info on finishing it off he would have posted this in a car stereo forum. I think this is a little more to tweak "old" ferrari owners with "fat" girlfriends. You know, the ones that don't participate in "centuries". To wit his profile: Previous Cars Owned Vette Occupation Consultant & Noisemaker Duh.
I'm just that good. OH, and no, ed didn't hit the "!" Now can we dial back the needless insults and bickering and get back to discussing the issues without the personal jibes? Grazie, DM
"This was a popular system for a good number of car show attendees... and I didn't even have it turned on. I saw a group of college ladies taking photos..." This says it all.... keep up the good work sailor
Our chatter "enjoythemusic" would be the one to ask about your crossover questions...... I bought some of that blue speaker wire to use on my home system last week, it was damned near too big to put into the Harmon Karden amp! I had to trim a few strands...........it fit into the Cerwin Vegas though...
That would be Harman Kardon LOL, instead of gold speaker wire I'd rather spent my hard earned on Magnecor ignition wire (just as expensive), and I still have my 7-pieces AKAI home stereo from 25 years ago with a good working heavy heat transmitting Phillips CD100 CD player (the very first). Like said, he modified his car with passion and that's what counts, the size of the wheels are OK by me not the chrome and I would have left out the front subwoofer, as there is no direct connection to the passenger cabin. It's fun to have a getto Ferrari, they are not holey even if some think so. New 308 and 328 have been crashed by rich kids who didn´t care, or have been neglected after a while `low original miles` yeah right. People who own a 308 or 328 today have probably saved up to buy the car and care about it, whatever they do with or to them.
Then I was doubting and Harmon Kardan gets 7M google hits and Harman Kardon only 5M, but Harman Kardon is correct.
I thought I misspelled it....it belonged to my new gf's former husband.....they found him dead, so I inherited it! The speakers were free too, from a coworker, they needed refurbishment but they sound great!
That girl upstairs stomping all the time across my ceiling needs to be scared, really scared........LOL! Probably cannot help it, she's not small........the woofers are 15" IIRC....
That's what I get for stopping at my Hole inThe Wall Stereo Shop instead of Radio Shack... They DID remember taking the Sawzall to my Ferrari dashboard...to put the Blaupunkt CD player in.. "Wasn't this car yellow?" "No, that was my OTHER Ferrari, this one has a Kenwood.."
There's a large group of purists here, fo' sure.... It's rather a younger interest, cramming the car with gear, my son is into projects like that.... As I mentioned 'enjoythemusic' and I have swapped discussion on upgraded sound systems but most would sneak it in without major appearance mods..I have dual element door speakers in one of my Ferraris, and my 25th Anniversary Trans Am has a special system that has TEN speakers, five per side.....LOL! The only year Pontiac offered THAT! Different strokes for different folks... Of course if he knew who 'fastradio' was, he wouldn't have picked HIM to go off on.....one of our most experienced and valued members.
