Ferraris are never "obsolete." But you know what OP meant- from a performance standpoint, will it be unequivocally dethroned as Ferrari's best performer? I say we'll have to wait and see, but my guess would be yes.
anyone here with a scuderia like to own an f355? i think everyone does. so no it will never be obosolete. scuderia is god made car
I would take the scuderia over the 458 as of right now, but then I'll get jealous when I see someone driving around in the 458. Then I would want to get one more than I did before, at this time the scuderia is more desireable to me, the 458 may only become desireable when I see all you guys posting pics of your cars on here.
The 458 Italia will be the 'it car' when it is released. The 430 Scuderia, like the Challenge Stradale, will always be more desirable and sought after than the Berlinetta and Spider variants. I think in a couple of years the 430 Scuderia is going to be the 'gotta have it' car in the same way the CS was in recent years.
No, it will be the second most desirable used regular production V8 Ferrari. Until the 458 replacement, when it will be the third most desirable, etc. I think we've gotten to the point of dimishing returns with regard to performance -- i.e., the difference between an F430 and 458 is far smaller than the variation in the skill of the drivers. All of these cars are far better than 99 percent of the people who drive them. With the 275 GTB and 250 GT SWB, I agree -- they evolved but remained special. However, with the more recent Intel-inside cars, I doubt they will age as well. At some point, the craftsmanship and metalwork of the old gave way to the silicon and carbon fibre of the new. IMHO, all of the newer stuff is ultimately disposable in the way an old PC or cassette tape player might be. That applies to cars in general: there's a difference between restoring the brightwork on a 1952 XK-120 and restoring the motorized pop-up gear selector knob on a 2009 XF. The new stuff is meant to be used up. The classic stuff is in another league.
Looks like you hit the nail on the head. As cool as the new generation of cars are, they don't seem to have staying power like the classics do. Although the classics didn't start out as classics either. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm going to go drive.
Not obsolete, no. I think it will be the same case with the 360 CS and the 430. 360 CS will be faster, but of course the 430 will have more luxuries. So far, the 0-60 time of the 458 Italia has been said as 3.4 seconds, while the Scuderia usually gets 3.1-3.2 seconds. The Scuderia may not be as powerful, but it is a lot lighter.
That's the nail on the head, my friend. We should all have your perspective. Unless I missed it, I think it's funny no one mentioned James May's comment on TG's last episode--he said that all Scuderia buyers should feel like "fat cocks" (or something to that effect) because of the discussed nature of succession that is normal among Ferrari's road cars and the radical beauty of the new 458. It was, of course, a comic gesture, but serves to make the same point that was raised in the OP's question. The Scud won't be obsolete, and even moreso the 16M, which is an even more outrageous car. But at the end of the day, as with anything, one must be content with what one has and accept the fact that bigger and better things will eventually come along. Appreciation shouldn't diminish with new models. The old ones simply become heralds of their time, forever reminding of us what was once an attempt at the highest standard possible and, more importantly, forever inspiring us to achieve the lasting greatness that the all-star classics demonstrate so well.
performance is still there, but the look is totally dated, I can't see the Scuderia will become a classic, look very Japanese to me
'dated'??.....'japanese design'?? Please, this thread makes me laugh. And my G in the background is most definitely outdated! Oh and so is the F40! I too am enamored with the gorgeous lines of the 458, but hardly is there anyone alive on this planet.......other then the computer "Design" experts here on Fchat, that would see a Scud/16M in the flesh and call it outdated. Just doesn't happen in the real world. Image Unavailable, Please Login
+1 In the real world 355s/360s still turn heads - so let's get some perspective here. In the flesh the Scud is gorgeous! Remember too that due to the low height, in reality these cars are usually seen more from above which makes them look flatter & wider than studio pics
i mean compared to almost any car on the road, you're absolutely right. but we're talking $300,000 exotic cars here. and when you look at the competition, it's not unfair for someone to think that other manufacturers (Lamborghini, etc.) have produced similar cars with edgier, more modern design. imo the l640, while not a car i'd choose over a scud due to the driving experience, wins hands down in terms of exterior design. say what you want about repetitive lambo design, etc. etc., it's a damn good one, and the countach and diablo are both modern classics.
Please, let's truly get real here. Most people will run out of talent before the car runs out of performance. The Scud is far from obsolete.
My personal estimation for the 458 real weight ( with full fuel ) is 1530-1540 KG, the scuderia tested by AMS 1417,the 430 tested by AMS 1498 KG, my 16 M tested by me 1516 KG,
I highly doubt any of these detractors have ever seen or been close to a Scud/16M. Yep, I just got through with romping on my obsolete, outdated, butt ugly 16M............oh and same goes for that old, "pos" CGT. LOL! You go back to fondling the joystick on your playstations and l'll continue to enjoy my outdated cars. Sheesh, give me a break (rolling eyes) Image Unavailable, Please Login
So if I, a non-owner with only 200 posts (egads!), post that I think the Scud/16M are not outdated and that this is a silly question, are you gonna rip me too? Get off it. Everyone has an opinion despite their qualifications to be let into your perceived club, and expressing them is exactly what a forum is for. And yes, I really do think this is a silly question. How can something at the cutting edge be outdated because of a car that doesn't yet exist?
wow. you've gotta be kidding me with that attitude. only ferrari owners who subscribe to ferrarichat.com forums have valid opinions on automobile design? yeah ok buddy.
