I also looked at this 355, it is rough but ran well. When we checked it out the 30K service was over 5 years ago which means it is due. The seller was great but the car didn't meet up to our expectations.

    Hi All,
Well I recieved the call at about 1:30 to today, and the decision was the car FAILED the PPI. Did the compression test first and 1 st cyl has a leak,it showed 162 all the rest were not bad from 210 to 223. But we did a leak down and it showd 60% leak when normal would about 6 %. I am done with this seller and I am looking to make a deal for a 348/355 and my car and cash. I am open to any offers. If you know of anyone please pass there name and number on to me.Well on to cars.com, auto trader ...
Thanks to all for your help

That is better than buying a big problem. Keep up the hunt! Can you give us a description of what color combos, features, etc., you would accept so everyone can keep their eyes open? Also, are you only interested in a deal that involves trading your 308 in on the deal? That may narrow the field quite a bit. You would probably be better off selling the 308 separately. Just my .02. Good luck!

Well done on avoiding buying a car that needs work.

Did you try to negotiate a fix with the seller? If you could come to an agreeable compromise to fix this car it could be a very good option provided the only fail on the PPI was the leak down.

Safe to assume this is valve guides and if these are done during a major service the bill can be kept somewhat reasonable.

At least that way you would know your cars has the right guides in it and fresh major. You would then be set for many years of trouble free motoring. Don't be too quick to run is all I am saying.

A well sorted 355 is a great car.

Glenn - Any other problems uncovered by the 355 PPI or was it stopped after the leakdown fail? This kind of information would be valuable to any prospective buyers asking questions at this site.

Smart place to start a PPI on a 355. At that point unless the dealer is ready to offer a discount on a valve job, stop the PPI and save some money.

We had it planned out that the Leak down test was the 1st step, so I stopped it at that point.
I tried to make a deal for the fix with seller but he really wanted to move on and just get rid of the car as is.

Hey Glenn, do you have any new prospects of a possible car? Is Robbie's 355 not what you are looking for? Can you give us an idea of what you are looking for? That would make the hunt easier.

Well, that does not look good for that dealership. There is a big red flag for anyone who is looking at a car in that area. Too bad. It doesn't take much to pick up a bad rep in that business.

I was wondering that myself - if you look at a few posts previous I asked him about Robbie but no answer.
