Just your typical middle-aged car guy, ready to make the move to a Ferrari. It's going well; six months of research so far and more to come. I'm getting comfortable with the idea of a 328 and thinking about milage, condition, etc. But when I get on F-Chat I head over to this sub-forum to look at all the 360s. I can't help it; they are so nice. How do I refocus on the 328 and purge the burning desire for 360 from my wandering mind?

You can purchase a 360 and then tell your friends it's a 328!!!

They are both fine machines. I think it's easier to find a good 360 because they built more of them and they are newer and more modern. But, the maintenance is much more than the 328.

If you like more performance but can tolerate higher running costs, the 360 is what you want. If you want a more classic experience and are willing to shop around quite a bit to find a good one at a price you're willing to pay, then go for the 328.

Either way you can't lose unless the car itself has been mistreated.

These happen to be the two cars I'm lurking for as well. I feel your pain, brother.

Don't know what advice to give you, really. The 360 still has a bit more depreciation left whereas the 328 might start appreciating - not that any of that b.s. has any bearing on your decision, but a little stretch of the imagination might help ease you back to the 328. *Might*. Not that there's anything wrong with the 328. It's a dream car - the kind that'll have you dreaming before your head hits the pillow and wake you up wishing you could have slept in your garage. On the other hand, were you to buy the 328, would you come on these forums and lurk the 360 group? Is there a chance you might look at a 360, with it's vulgar engine exposing itself to heaven like some Italian porn-goddess, and some small voice inside you says "I wish I had that..."? Then whatever you do you should never, ever look at this thread about garage lifts:

    what's the price delta between a good 360 and a good 328?

    328 GT/S maybe $35-45K

    360 coupe = $75-90K, add $10K for a drop top?

This is for good to excellent examples, and I'm shooting from the hip (using ebay) for the 328 prices.

Are service costs comparable? Probably cheaper to keep a 360 running like a top than a 328.

Performance? Comfort? Style?? really no question the 360 kicks the 328 in all of these categories.

Depreciation. the 328 is pretty much done, the 360 has 20% still to run before it settles. (Again, a guess.)

So, if you can afford the delta, buy the 360. If you can't right now, buy the 328, drive it for 18 months, and then buy the 360 when the 458 has finished killing off the prices on the 360. Either way, it's a win.

Of course, we're a little biased here. ask the same question in the 328 forum and see what responses you get.

It's a no brainer in my mind. Pony up the sheckles and buy the 360 if you can afford it. The rule of thumb has always been buy the newest, best condition car you can afford. I think that rule applies here, too.

I don't own a Ferrari, but I can tell you everyone has a favorite Ferrari. You need to ask yourself, which one is yours? Buy the one that puts the biggest smile on your face. As far as maintenance costs are concerned, you don't need to make yours a daily driver. Budget time in the year when you are going to use it and only insure it and have it prepped for that time. Each Ferrari is special, so you don't need to bother trying to keep up with the Joneses, as far as newest technology and style goes. A Ferrari is one of the few emotional decisions in your life that you're supposed to make without trying to back it up with logic. I hope you figure it out soon, because I want to see pictures :). Best of luck!

I just sold my 328 month+ ago after I bought a 360 spider. I will tell you this, for me the 360 is absolutely hands down the better choice (for me). You, may be different.

They are 2 entirely different cars. Unless the 328 you buy has been very sorted -YOU will be sorting. Not just normal maintenance but you now have a 25 year old Ferrari- with that comes 25 year old rubber fuel lines, hoses, wiring, gaskets, seals, bearings... you get the picture. I had put 30k in my 328 to get back to literally as new dependable driver... went to 1 event after a 9 month + restoration .... only to be seduced again by the 360 spider....

I knew this affair had to become a lasting relationship... so I sold the 328 I had bought last spring that I just completed a $30k+ restoration on- had driven literally under 1000 miles since I owned her (at a big loss) to be with the seductress...

People ask if I regret the money I lost- my reply - NOT 1 BIT! Every time I look at her in the garage, drive her... she was meant for me.

    So,
moral of the story... If you are being seduced- go that direction or it will be like a divorce from the 328 when you pay your "alimony".

Good luck & enjoy the search!
    Chris

    328 vs. 360? I chose a 360 F1 although I've driven both quite a bit.

I found the 360 to be like a woman with no legs -- once you have one you'll never go back ;-)

Only one choice has the motor mounted north-south. Find a 360 you like and don't live with regrets if you can swing it.
