I was stopped for my 355 being too loud!!

As a F355 owner and a Cop I would never pull over anyone that was not based on PC. I have a camera in my police car and that can come back and bite you if you stopped someone without PC. But I have talked to many Ferrari owners in parking lots. I too have a Tubi exhaust that is very loud but the Missouri law states you will have a working exhaust system and that is what it has. If he issues you a ticket your defense is you have an exhaust system. Now my front plate is under the seat and not on the front of the car, that would be good PC for the stop.

Sorry, but I think the story is funny, and no, I don't think the cop was out of line. I thought sound restrictions in CA were pretty strict, no? Wouldn't stop me from having one, I'd consider the tickets to be part of the payments

 

In the state of Missouri the sound is subject to the officer's opinion. Which means it is just like defining porno. One Officer thinks it is too loud and the other says it is ok. Which all means I will see you in court and tell it to the Judge and let him or her decide. Some states use a db meter and excessive noise is defined as over 85db. Do not tell the police officer that you have an aftermaket muffler he can hold that against you in court. Show him you have a full size muffler and he would have to prove it otherwise that it is not factory equiped.

just an agreeing note...I grew up in the bay area and have been hot rodding cars for twenty years, it has never changed as far as I know.....you cannot alter your factory exhaust, period. yes they let you get away with it often, however I belive the law is clear, you can not alter or modify your factory exhaust. same here in washington where I live now.
That said, I have Tubi on my Boxer, Hall big bore on my GT5, NASCAR truck 3 1/2" oval on my 70 Trans Am, point is everyone does it but it does not make it legal. I drive slow and obey the laws in town etc. get me on a open road......oh boy is it a blast, especially with Montana 40min away and no speed limits to speak of. If I drive like an idiot around town I give an officer PC. Like the others I have alot of PD pals from SF pd to Oakland Hwy patrol, CoCo county sheriffs, the all say the same thing, don't give me a reason to pull you over, I assure you it's not about sound levels of your exhuast....something else set him or her off, they have better things to do. ( unless your 16 in a low rider with music louder than your car )

I have a Tubi exhaust on my car and the Cats are empty. Very loud when going through a fast food drive through. The main thing to keep the police at bay is to not give them a reason to stop you. You know like driving like a 16 year old. I am 50 years old and people say I drive to slow. I know I could do a 160 mph if I wanted to.

ha ha... I ran my car with no muffler and just test pipes for a while... one of the coolest sounds I have ever heard in my life. Unbelievable how "clean" the car sounds. I will never ever for get it... my neighbors won't either!!! ear piercingly loud!!!

I can't believe you got stopped for that. It is louder than stock but not obnoxiously loud.

I have hyperflow with level 2 Capristo and was stopped by my local LEO and was cited a ticket for "modified exhaust".

I think a lot of it was due to your location. Come on with all the street racers and sport bikes it's a Mecca for cops to hassle people. I drove the 355 through 84 no hassle. Next time I took the lowered e-500 and going up 92 past Canada a CHP gong the other way flipped a u-turn and followed me for miles. I was at or under the speed limit. The look on his face was priceless. My wife was like, WTF was that all about.

Give the road, types of cars and crotch rockets it doesn't surprise me. Some of the cops are on hyper alert and ready to go off with the ticket book.
