Is Forza THE magazine for the Ferrari Enthusiast??

Just received my first issue.....
Kinda like Playboy, Love the pics but I really subscribe for the articles......

Are any of these magazines available in Europe?

The only one I get is the one of the Ferrari club of Italy...

 

Forza isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Too much of the SOS.
I let the subscription lapse after many years.

So Cav and Prancing Horse are the ones to get IMO.

 

I've been to Barnes & Noble to look for maybe another one, no luck. I think Forza and Cav. and Prancing Horse, other than the Ferrari magazine, that you can pick up at Ferrari.com at the online Ferrari store. I don't really want to pay $200-300 (I think) on a seasonal magazine. I like Forza just fine, and is my favorite.

 

You'll find Forza on general sale in the UK at Borders.
I subscribe to it through Hortons Books in the UK but I am sure there are many distributors throughout mainland Europe.

But, to answer the question 'Is Forza THE magazine for the Ferrari enthusiast? then the answer is an empahatic NO!!

Cavallino is by far and away the best, with the Prancing Horse (FCA magazine), Ferrari (UK FOC magazine), Scuderia (Japanese magazine) right behind.
Forza is a pleasant read but by no means the magazine.

Ferrari (UK FOC magazine) is indeed a fantastic read -- but I think it focuses more on the social aspects of the Club. Prancing Horse (in the US) is similar in club content, but I'd say it is decidedly more technical/vehicle oriented.

Forza and Cavallino are absolutely vehicle/racing specific, with little 'social' content.


... I get all four magazines regularly, I that's my 2-second impression. I think there's room in the market for another publication with more vehicle specifics, but the publishing biz sure ain't mine!

 

In my opinion Forza is not THE magazine for the enthousiast but a nice addition to other Ferrari magazines. For me Cavallino is THE magazine, with Ferrari World as Second Best (although the emphasis is a bit too much on German club life). Cavallino is very precise with its information and has only six issues a year with contributions of all the important writers about the history of Ferrari (and many of them are members of this forum). FORZA is more a glossy magazine about one of the greatest car makes in the world. When Henry Rasmussen started it, the quality was on a relatively high level, but the last few years, I think it has become more superficial.

 

a bit ot,but do you think of the top gear mag...i was impressed by a quick scan at the bookstore and the photography seems excellent,but i didnt go deep enough for a full appraisal

Top Gear magazine is garbage, it is pretty much the only UK magazine I do not subscribe to.

If you can try and source evo for the new stuff, if you are more in to older cars try Octane, Classic & Sports Car and Motor Sport

Forza is fine, if you want to read the 308 buyers guide every issue. I still subscribe , for the same reason I still subscribe to Playboy, I have every issue so if I stop the set won't be complete.

 

Forza used to be fine, but over the past few years the content has devolved into articles on the latest tuner kit, that constantly-recycled "buyers guide", outdated info on F1, and that's about it.

Cavallino holds no interest for me, because frankly the ancient cars don't interest me. Hyper-specific details on ancient cars -really- doesn't do anything for me. I wished the Otto mag had taken off, I think that would have been excellent.

I have some old Rossos that are pretty cool, but they're no longer printed.

Octane is first rate. If I had to pick one, that would be it right now.

How many issues in a row do we need with tuner kits for the 599? We also had to endure a kustomized 365 GTC/4 and pimped 512 BBi.

The other thing -- and it's not necessarily the writers' fault -- is that there's only so many times you can write about the "snick-snick of gear lever in the gate" and "the engine loves to be revved" before we have to conclude there is nothing new to say.

For me the Ferrari magazines are the sales brochures and owners manual books.

Exactly. That and it's so incredibly biased. Granted most who are reading love Ferrari but I don't think they've ever listed a fault with a car. It's a bit over the top really.

 

I started Forza with issue #1. For several years it was innovative and enlightened reading. But after while there seemed to be less and less about current production and more about 308 and its derivatives. Tillman you are absolutely correct. It became boring.

 

Excellence Magazine is, I believe, a sister publication of Forza, except Excellence is about Porsche cars.

Excellence is, well, excellent. I've subscribed for years, and it's a good mix of old and new, tech stuff, etc.

I recently subscribed to Forza and have been less impressed. They do seem to recycle a lot of stuff over and over. Is ok, not anything exceptional, though.

 

Forza seems to be more of a "working man's" Ferrari magazine. For the most part they focus on cars that nearly everyone could afford given enough time and hard work.

You do get the odd article on multi-million dollar cars. While those are interesting the sub $100k cars are why I subscribe. New car reports are also interesting because someday all of them will be sub $100k cars too

The latest article has a recycled buyers guide on the Dino and early V8's trhough the 328. The prices seem lower than what I've seen anywhere. Maybe everyone selling considers their car to be excellent.

 

Who needs Forza when you've ALREADY got Fchat???

 

Sorry but I find Cavallino a bit of a snooze fest..
