A previous owner of my '03 575M had an iPod adaptor added--it's simply a cable with a jack coming out from under the dash. It won't fit either my iPhone or my Touch but it fits my older 80gig iPod (crs the name/model.) The iPod charges when it's plugged in but I can't figure out what setting the stereo needs to be to hear the music over the car's speakers. As I toggle through the options it doesn't seem to get 'hot' and there's no sound and, of course, the head unit doesn't indicate an 'AUX' position. I don't know what input a shop might have wired this cable/jack to. Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure the stereo is the Becker model as it's similar to my older Carrera's.

    Thanks!

    PS: Lossless rocks.

guessing you are talking the OEM entertainment item? Mine is an Alpine, and has an iPod choice on the screen, controls everything..store the iPod in the glove and good to go...

but, that was the first month, never use it anymore...

matter of fact thinking of jerking the entire Alpine thing out and replacing with OEM radio setup...easier to use for me while driving.

Yeah, the OEM unit. I feel your pain. I put an expensive aftermarket Kenwood in my Cayenne because the Germans' nav (in '05) was from the stone age. That Kenwood is incredibly complex and stupid. But the nav part is cool. I got a Garmin Nuvi a few weeks ago for the 575 and it is the shizzle, baby.

Also, ripping out the boombox rear trunk bass unit prev. owner installed: geesch.

I understand from a search there were either Sonys or Beckers installed. I assume mine is a Becker just because it's almost identical to the unit in my (now gone) '98 Carrera.

I like the Becker. It sounds pretty damn good in the 575 but listening to music over a V12/Tubi--well, let's just the sonic clarity of the hifi isn't fully realized, I suppose. ;'{>

It sounds like you need to switch the head unit to "AUX ON." On a Becker unit, it is usually done by holding down the "TP" or the down arrow button, until the display shows options.

Scroll through (using the turning knob)the list to find AUX Off or On, select ON and then turn off the unit's power button.

More likely than not, that cable plugs into the factory CD changer input. Try that first.

does the cd changer still function? If so, I would suggest the cable is connected through the fm. If it is this then there will either be a switch (under dash) to turn the fm modulator on or it will be on all the time. In either case tune to @ ch 87.1 on fm plug the ipod in turn it on and search up on the fm till you hear the ipod playing. I usually set one of the presets on the radio to the station. Let me know if you still cant get it working!

I bet this is the cable you have installed: http://www.beckerautosound.com/Porsche/aux_input_CR_CDR%20220.html

Try the CD changer again. This time make sure you have a CD in the changer and you hit the play button on the radio. I have something similar on my Maserati and I need to trick the car into thinking that a CD is playing in the changer in order for the IPOD's content to play through.

Scott is the winner! Thanks, man. There's a little toggle under the dash just off my right knee. Tune the FM to the right station and we're good to go. Thanks for all the help, guys.

PS: Why anyone rips in iTunes in anything other than Apple Lossless is beyond me.

Jake, you get the consolation prize for identifying the right cable. I think.

Nope, I am a two-time loser. If you are using FM modulation then you probably have an in-line connection with the FM antenna connector on the back of the head unit.

Glad we could help you figure it out.... It sounds like you are after sound quality.... With the fm mod interface your lossles isnt going to matter much.I think you need the becker aux cable so you dont have to go through the fm.

since you mention antenna, is there anything to improve the reception, mines when needed in FM is full of static, lousy reception....

is the older 456 GT in the same location?

How is your am reception in the 456? When you scan does the tuner ever stop on an am station? If not I would suggest that the aftermarket radio installation wasn't completed properly as I see it almost once a week with any car that has an antenna amplifier.... The antenna amp trigger wire is usually left disconnected. You will get fm without the trigger wire connected but you wont get any am if it is disconnected.

Scott, yes sound quality is important but again, the car is so loud that I don't get too hung up on it. At the risk of going OT: At home, however... let's just say my computer rig is run through a Peachtree Decco and Dynaudio speakers with a full Linn/B&W system in the same room. 5 stereo systems in the house all linked through Sonos.

Nice equiptment! The diifference in the car is making the ipod sound at least as good as the cd sounds verses maybe as good as the fm sounds...

Yeah, I understand what you're saying but I've just never gotten too hung up on mobile audio quality. Even in a quiet car there's road noise. I have to admit that I bought an old Linn LP12 for the house last year and have started to collect vinyl again. It's complicated.

I have emailed the link in this thread to see if the cable works on my 2004 575HGTC with standard Becker head unit and CD changer. Does anyone know of any other options? I don't want to change the head unit and am not a fan of the FM option

Agree but there are traffic jams and sometimes the right song makes a great drive even better - particularly on a long trip where there are periods of "extra cautious" driving

Yes, there is a cable available from Beckerautosound that will charge and give audio, there may be another option depending on the model number/date of your Becker.

I am right now making a switching module to allow both an Ipod and the Silverstone CD player to play through the Becker head unit. You first switch inputs on the module then switch from CD to AUX on the becker. I will know more in three days, just waiting for one more connector to finish it up.

Since my 550 is a US version I have an unused rear fog light switch in the dash so that's the one I used to switch the module. You must buy a new "Sport or Fog" switch because the blank switch has no internals.

Does your Becker show track info when in CD mode or just the track number?

The model number is on the code card as is the serial number.

    Here is the cable http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Becker-iPod-Cable-with-Charge_W0QQitemZ250432833543QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Audio_Video?hash=item3a4ef5c807&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
