Leasing a Ferrari F430.

I'm currently working in NYC making a decent living (145,000). I don't own a car since I take the subway to work every day. I'm interested in leasing a F430 Ferrari, brand new. It's MSRP is around $190,000. I don't really have any other expenses, I'm kind of living a lonely life. What do you say?

 

Are you living in NYC? Are you renting? 145k isn't that much money in NYC to be dropping it on a lease payment for a 430...Unless you have a lot of money in the bank...

 

Sounds like income taxes and car payment would take 1/2 your income?

Im living in NJ. And I really have nothing else to spend my money on. I graduated 3 years ago, and I started off with $120k. I'll probably work my way up to more money, but who knows.

 

1. Leasing a Ferrari is a bad idea.....(way too many reason why)
2. Leasing is not what it was before our economy tanked (again, too many reasons to list)
3. With your income, how could you afford a ($4000 plus) payment?
4. A new clutch and fly wheel will set you back 8K! (not covered under warranty)
5. A brand new 430 doesn't sell for 190K (my 06' listed for 200K)
a new one (even if it's an 08' will list for at least 210K
6. A 430 wont make you less lonely

 

Without knowing all of your situation details I would question why buy new? The depreciation will be high and there are so many really clean 430's and 360's on the market that can be had for much less money and will give you the same enjoyment for half the cost.

Leasing is a good option if you have a business and can write off the payments against your taxes. Otherwise you can get a longer term from a bank for usually lower payments.

 

How are you calculating my monthly payments? I've never leased or purchased a car, so Im basically blind to the whole process. Yahoo Autos has the F430 listed at 186,000k. How did your '06 go for 200,000

 

First of all TAX on a 200K car is gonna add to your purchase/lease price. Even when you lease you're still paying the TAX as you go.......Im thinking that the 186K number is on a car before adding any options........once you add them the price jumps dramatically.

I actually paid a lot more for my 06'.....the 200K sticker price included all options. I had to pay 40K over sticker to get a brand new one at that time. Those days are over for a while.

Anyhow, until you let us know a bit more I don't see how we can be of any help to you......
why do you suddenly want a 430? Have you ever driven an exotic car? Going from taking the subway to a 430 is awesome, but VERY suspect to me. Im just sipping coffee and relaxing here, so I have no axe to grind......Im just finding your story to be odd.

What are you suspecting? My lifestyle or if I'm telling the truth? What you're saying is right, the Ferrari is out of my league at this current point. I'll look into the BMW M6.

Here's my story:

Spent four years in undergrad. Graduated summa cum laude that was merited by four years of hard work. Got a job paying me $57,000. Worked there for three painful years. Applied to business school. Decided on Harvard Business School for my MBA. Spent two amazing years there. Met some great people - both within my section and alumni from there. Networked and worked hard there as well. Graduated from Harvard as a slighty above average student. Found work in New York City. Spent 1/3 of my bonus helping out the people that got me here (family) and purchased some business suits. hopefully, I will still continue to move up and make more money. We'll see where life takes me.

 

Nothing personal buddy, but once you've been around here for a while you see these threads started by newbies that a clearly bull......You could be the exception, who am I to judge??

 

F430-Ape is right, you have no idea how many idiots come in every week or so and claim they have some fantastic car collections. On some very rare occasions, these people actually do deliver, but mostly, they turn out to be teenagers who don't even know how to lie properly.

I completely question you. $145k, living at mom and dads may give you enough disposable income to afford a f430. $145k, paying >40% taxes and paying a rent and buying food leaves you about enough to buy a Honda.

So how is I want to lease on on a $145k income not a lie again? Seriously, how do you have an education and make that much and not know how much taxes you pay?

To be fair, that's one part of his story that does add up

 

Don't buy *any* exotic for your first car. You won't really understand parking nuances, filling up with gas nuances, et al for some time *after* your first car purchase...let your learning experience be cheaper and less stressful by making your first car something inexpensive and disposable.

After you've been driving your first disposable car for a bit, then you can reasonably start looking at a prestige purchase (but even then, on just $145k not much is going to be in your budget). A general rule of thumb is that an exotic car should only be purchased with throw away "F You" money that you have laying around and wouldn't miss if it was burned up in a house fire.

A rule of thumb for a generic car purchase is to never purcahse a car with a sticker price that is above your annual income, even if you have that much "F You" money laying around.

In your case, that would limit you to below $145k sticker price (not final sales price) vehicle.

Leasing *is* a purchase, by the way, just a different way of first financing and later disposing of the car.
