Have any of you guys head that when you have a 6 speed that is NOT drivien much that the seals go bad and you have to replace the throw out bearing in a 1900 mile car? Ive heard few dif opinions ranging from drive it and it will fix itself to yes replace bearing ,, appreciate the tech facts on this one....

Make model and year would be a great help.

Seals go bad. They are not living organisims and heal themselves. Leaking slave cylinder seals have a nasty habit of suddenly failing leaving the driver stranded.

So glad you chimed in as i was going to send you a private Pm and inquire ,, Ok 2002 360 6 speed 1900 miles . i was told by the dealer during the PPi that i needed a new throw out bearing as the seals go bad in the stick shift models if they are NOT driven much .Clutch most likely fine due to the low mileage but they wanted 2800 for the seals and throw out bearing Sounds reasonable or is it possable driving may help . he stated the sympton was when the car heats up the clutch would squeak at first and then gradually become stiffer with time. Also why is there so much spread in the price for a 30000 mile service I am getting 3000 -4800 in La area ... any imput much appreciated ....

When Car heats up clutch squeaks and he SAYS it will get stiffer in time. THis noise is alledgedly related to the seals going bad with the throw out bearing due to the NON driving of a stick car .... thanks b

A few things do not add up here.

A slave cyl. seal going bad will result in in fluid loss and air getting into the hydraulic circuit causing incomplete or nor disengagement of the clutch.

A squeal can be the throwout bearing going bad. This can cause the bearing to freeze up or worse yet shatter. Either event will cause lots of damage to your clutch.

The question is does the squeal happen when you are pushing in the clutch pedal or all of the time??
