I am absolutely with you here.

All we have is one person's side of the story and no supporting documents or pictures.

Until we see some more I'm wondering if it's anything but a story.

This certainly wouldn't be the first time someone ran a "game" here.

    4carbs, it's your move.

    1. Paying an amount of money and retrieving the items doesn't waive any rights. No release was signed here nor was any contractual limitation agreed so there's no limit on subsequent claims caused merely by paying and retrieving the goods.
    2. Stopping payment on the check is not advisable. Paying for a good by writing a check for which the payor has no intention of honoring is called fraud, specifically, fraud in the inducement. It's certainly a civil tort, and in most jurisdictions it's a crime.

One time a shop had my engine parts for a whole racing season (non-Ferrari).
It was a friend of the family so it took longer then normal to realize I was getting bent over.
At least you had work done. When I went and took my block+crank and new heads/cam/rods/pistons back the only thing touched was the crank. So I paid for that machining that they said the didn, and threw the crank in the garbage and bought a new one because I completely did not trust anything the shop did. The rest of the parts were still untouched so I had a reputable shop do the work in a couple weeks and I was on my way.

Have your parts checked by a Ferrari mechanic, not just some neighbour. If all is well thank your lucky stars you are out only time and a little extra money. Move on. Enjoy life. If everything does not measure up sue them and make them pay for replacements or re-work (at a different shop).

He should have gone to Rock's first. I wonder if he's seen the finished product yet? I'd like to hear what Rock has to say about this "good" job. My guess is that it will have to be done over again...

I think you should insist on a full break down of what work was done.I would write and ask this immediately and if no response I would then engage a Lawyer to pressure them into it. You have every right to know what has transpired. The shop simply saying $4900 for labour and $100 for parts is of no use to the next owner of your car when you wish to re- sell. I would want to know whether there was any warping of the heads how much they had to machine off, was there any welding required, etc etc etc so that I have a fully documented proceedure, otherwise come time for you to claim due to faulty workmanship they can always say "we didn't do that bit". What work shop of any repute would not itemise the work done just to protect their own asses should something go wrong.
Seems to me, regardless of those sticking up for the shop, that this repairer is a schonk and based on your full experience they should be named and shamed regularly so that no one forgets and gets trapped like you were.
