I've been fighting off the 308 bug but that color combination is beautiful. I'd have a hard time passing that one up. Looks beautiful. Have you dug into the belts yet?

Thats a great looking 308. One of my fav color combos...

From the pics it has incredible potential once it gets a serious detail...

Leatherique is the stuff you want for those seats....

There's a 16mm (5/8") hose that runs under the coil packs and attaches to the rear head. This hose is very often forgotten, and it ages very badly. It sees the hottest water from the head and carries it up to the heater valve. If you do a coolant flush, look at the inside of that hose. If you flex it, and see cracks, it's past due for replacement. It's an initiation ritual to change, not terribly hard, but there are quite a few obvious steps with opportunities to admire the beautiful machinery, and change out other rubber bits on the way.

    Congratulations on your beautiful 308!!!

    Hey Climb,

    Want to sell YOUR GTSi?

    I won't offer over $29.95 as it is non-collectable.

But if you'd like I make the offer in EUs or Pounds, your choice as NO ONE WANTS dollars.

    :D

Perhaps i should have used the term investment grade.

Just saying if you can replace this car for 15k it may be worth the risk of driving it when the cost of a major could be half the value of the entire vehicle and you'd still need a paint job and new leather. I'm not knocking the car ( i love both the year and the color combo) just commenting on the risk/reward of putting large sums of money in the car from a strictly numerical/financial point of view.

I have an '80 myself and love it but i doubt many others remember 1980 as the year their family almost lost their house during a terrible ecomomy. During this time i began to doubt that i'd ever own a Ferrari. So for me the year has sentimental value but for most as we've discussed here ad nauseum the cars that will appreciate in value the most will probably be the glass cars and the QV.

As an owner of an '80 i get great feeling everytime i see the orientation of the clock as this was something specific to '80 308s.

Unless their are thousands out there that want a 1980 for the same reason as me...who knows?

Well, i recently bought a 308, one of those under powered, emission laden,2 valve slugs built in 1981!I Gave $22k for it,all new paint, new brakes all around, master cylinder,booster,r/b calipers, new rotors, pads and s/s lines. All coolant and fuel lines replaced and new expansion tank. All suspension bushings have been replaced,(shocks seem ok) all new Michlein metric tires and refinished wheels (yes 390's)Belts will need replacement this fall and the drivers seat upholstery is history and will need replacing,so i have budgeted $4-5k for that.Thinking seriously about removing cats and going with a Stebro, that'll be over $2k.Then the car should be in tip top shape. So, by then i'll have over to $30k in the car!,but you know what?I don't care, i've wanted a 308 for 20 years and now i got one and do not look at it as any kind of an investment, more of a money pit and mistress and at 56 years old, i won't be selling her,my wife or whomever survives me will dispose of her. So,i guess my 308 is only ''collectable'' to me!

I'm as guilty as anyone of raising these cars to mythical god status. I don't see them as individual pieces of rubber metal and glass but as one piece of art. My nails are always full of grease and the back of my shirt always dirty from being underneath my 308. Sometimes my girlfriend checks my back for grease as i leave to make sure i don't go out yet again with a dirty shirt. I'm under my car so much i tend to forget and walk out the door full of Ferrari grease. As i type here i have grit in my teeth from particles falling into my mouth while filling the steering rack with grease.

My point is that despite my/our love for these cars and all my/our worry, time and money the payback will most likely be in our personal enjoyment of the car and not financial.

AND IF ANYONE BUYS A CAR (Read: TOY) and seriously considers possible "financial gain" (as in an investment) as part of the equasion, opposed to merely personal enjoyment, I don't believe they truely love the marque, but only see it as a potential payday (paycheck).

    To me ..... kinda sad.

    Sorry Fellers. Just MHO.
