That one pic in there looks undeniably F50GT. Good work.
LightAuto used to have the car advertised on their website. That's where the photo in post #3 came from. They've had the car for at least 4 years now, so they must not be in too big of a hurry to sell it. Here's a few more images from their showroom in case the OP doesn't come through with his shots soon. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome to Fchat. Did you take any pics of the F50GT? Maybe someone can help, I saw an F50GT a few years ago at Symbolic (La Jolla about 2002). Anyone have any idea what car that was? I could have swore the guy said it was from Australia.
Nice pics. Thanks for sharing. I saw one in person at Symbolic a few years back. Incredible car. I wonder why Autolight doesn't have the F50GT on their inventory list any more?
Since there's mention of F50s in Japan, there's two more F50s, one yellow and one silver, for sale in central Japan at AutoGarage Motoyama. Both are in the range of 60 million yens. One point of caution, there are/were cases of stolen cars brought into this country legally and being sold on the market. Jimmy
The F50 GT you saw was the same one that LightAuto has now - chassis #003. It should have been earlier than 2002 though. When you saw it, it was probably headed for Australia. It had been auctioned off at the RM Auction in Arizona in early 2000 to a buyer in Australia. It wouldn't surprise me if Symbolic was either involved in that transaction somehow or was arranging the transport to Australia for its new owner. Here's a few pics when it was there that should jog your memory a bit. Also, Mike Sheehan adds a few details to the story here: http://www.ferraris-online.com/Articles/SCM_0003.html >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I love cars as much or more than the next person. But there comes a point when you have to state what should appear to be obvious, That being......WHERE can you drive a car on the street anywhere in the world .....WITH "3" inches of ground clearance!!!!!!!. That car is "1" speed bump away from "MAJOR" repair. The new owner will probably be leaving some paint behind just getting it off the show room floor......Mark.
#003 was originally delivered to Jim Spiro of New Orleans but delivery was on the West Coast. Diddier Thayes was sent with the car to do some laps with Jim on a circuit and for a write-up in Forza. So technically the car was tracked (sort of) on its first day in the hands of the new (then) owner. That is, of course, if I recall correctly. Can someone dig up the Forza article?
I would think that 3" of ground clearance on this thing is a huge overstatement. I bet that front end is 2" at the absolute most. Afterall it is a purpose built racer....
Your recollection is correct - the track was Willow Springs. I don't have scans of the article, just this small image that appeared somewhere on the web. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is definitely one of them! Going further back in my memory I seem to recall there only being a few second/lap difference between the F50GT and Jim's Black F-50, hence the "sort of tracked it" comment because obviously Diddier wasn't even close to utilizing the GT's full potential.
Photos of the F50 GT that i took and the maserati we took out on the streets while i was over there. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic - thanks for sharing those. Any idea what their asking price is for the F50 GT? Also, was the green McLaren F1 road car still upstairs? >8^) ER
Great pictures. Thank you for sharing them. So how was the Maserati, I would think such a big, low car in a city drive would be tough. -Ryan
I often wish I had the cajones to mod my F50 and to say "to hell with it." I'd love to have a carbon fiber/kevlar craftsmen build new body panels and retrofit them to my car to convert it into a "look a like" F50GT. Wouldn't matter to me that it wasn't the real thing. It would still be one of the most unique cars around. The problem is taking a $800,000+ car and modding it, ruining its originality, and essentially turning it into a bas*** child. Oh well ...
You could always keep the original parts and refit them if necessary. Kinda like a lot of F40 owners do to have a GTE or LM lookalike.
True. If you want someone to do it I can help you there. I don't think it would be a big deal at all.
Jim - With your knowledge and experience I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Conceptually it seems like a massive undertaking to me ....
It wouldn't be for free to do nicely but it could be done. If you want to persue it pm me with your email address and I'll put you in touch with the right person to check it out.
If you can get a hold of the body moulds, not a big deal. If you have to have moulds made and then do the carbon panels, it's somewhat pricey. But, not $800K worth of work. The issue will be getting access to a car (or existing panels) that you can pattern from. There are, after all, only 3. CW
That's why I figured it to be a massive undertaking! Unless you have an actual car to pattern off of (or even take measurements from) you're guessing at best. An undertaking like this would need to be done right or not done at all. From what I know the guys who work in carbon could easily make the panels but they would need exisiting panels to mold AND the process does not always leave the original part in original condition! Yikes! Anyone care to guess where the F50GT molds might be??
