Found cracked hose to bypass valve

    Just wondering, I was working on my 99 spider tonight and was installing a Tubi. After taking everything apart, I got to the vacumn hose to the bypass valve. Before I went to undo the clamps I just ran my finger down it and found it cracked and split by the lower clamp.

    So my question is, is it possible the valve was not actually opening and if so, would that have normally thrown a check engine light? I never had one but was just curious. I also found a cracked lower clamp on the muffler that needs to be replaced but it was still tight.

    And if the valve was not working would it have impacted performance that much?

    ok, its a 1999 F355 Spider F1 and I am in NY. I did some deeper searching after my first post and someone had posted that if the vacumn hose was actually disconnected it should NOT set off the check engine light. Just wanted to see if anyone else can confirm that??

    Since I am a fairly new 355 owner, I am not not sure I heard a difference after any set RPM level??? I did always feel like it did not make alot of power up top but that may just be me going crazy.

    Sure am looking forward to this weekend and the show in Glen Cove NY. Although really hope FerrariLI has the exhaust clamp instock otherwise I will be trying to figure something out.

    In a US car its failure to function should set a check engine light. The temp sensor in the pipe down stream of it is intended for that purpose only. A crack in that hose is quite common and it requires a special hose to deal with the heat.

    Ricambi has the exhaust clamps.
    If you didn't hear a difference, then it probably wasn't working. It's a pretty significant difference.


    Mr Crall, thanks for the input. I put a Capristo bypass valve on last year requiring longer hose, so I just got whatever they had at Autozone. I will inspect for heat damage and insulate as needed. Best regards.

    My 98 355 doesn't have a bypass valve anymore....:D
