Alonso 'Will Switch to Ferrari'

Silly me, I thought all the speculation would calm down when the racing resumed.

(if one really takes the time to read the article it's clear that Withmarsh doesn't know what he's talking about. He's only guessing and trying to divert the questions about McLaren's own driver line-up for the future).

Assuming FA does go to the Reds, it actually creates a ripple effect of about 7 places up for grabs I think.

 

With Alonso, Kimi and Kubica all potentially up for grabs I'd guess the ripples will be more like a blender set on high.

 

I always heard Alonso was better than Rory Byrne in a wind tunnel...

I've long been and avid Kimi supporter, and I will be until he definitively proves me otherwise. People point out his "lack of motivation" I say it's his style, let it alone. Other's point out his lack of performance : I say look at the car this year. Ferrari have just simply missed the mark. If Alonso comes to Ferrari next year, I can't say I'd root against him, but I'm not wishing for it. I don't like that attitude he carries, although I will admit he is a fast driver. I hope everyone is right saying that he'll resurrect the flailing Scuderia, and I'll graciously admit defeat if he does, but I sincerely doubt that he will...

Right. Because beating Schumacher and Raikkonen to win a championship is luck. Alonso isn't the only McLaren driver who has complained of favoritism towards Hamilton BTW. Heikki has done the same on more than once occasion.

I'd love to see Alonso at Ferrari. That's about the only way you'd find me wanting them to win. Kimi lacks motivation, and Massa could be a dud when he comes back (NOTE: I REALLY HOPE NOT). Getting a great driver like Alonso into that car makes perfect sense. Plus, over the past two years a much more mature Alonso has been driving the Renault F1 car so he wouldn't be a PR nightmare either.

 

Q: (Andrew Benson - BBC) Flavio, this morning on the BBC, Martin Whitmarsh referred to what he called the 'Fernando/Ferrari move' as a given. Are you as sure as he is that Fernando will move to Ferrari next year?

FB: I think so. Fernando is in my management company at the moment, he's not in Martin's. Maybe something has happened overnight. We are just waiting for McLaren to line up their drivers and after we will decide what we're doing.

You can't use this year's Renault as an example as it suffered from the same flaw the Ferrari and BMW did: KERS and not built for a super diffuser.

That's like saying a driver who sat in a non skirt car in 1980 was an idiot at developing the car. Like Sheckter or Villeneuve (whose Ferrari had skirts, but the wrong engine to support them properly

A good development driver can only improve an existing design, not change the underlying design philosophy.

 

I thought that there were serious journalists at the BBC. If you read the full article, you can find the exact words from Whitmarsh:

"In reality there are some changes PROBABLY with Fernando and Ferrari and that frees up the driver market".

PROBABLY!! That´s far from the certainty expressed in the headline. I doubt that Mclaren is close to Alonso´s management, so probably Whitmarsh knows the same than us: just the rumours seen in the press. Nothing new here.

 

Ideally I want Vettel in Ferrari. But If we cannot have him, then Alonso and Kubica will do just fine. How is it possible that McLaren made such a jump and Ferrari are still struggling. We need changes in our team--including the management!!! Picking Badoer over Gene was such a terrible descision!!!

 

If i remembered correctly, LH only started to close up on FA when FA was forced to share car setup and other data with LH? no?

And from what I recall, MS rarely (if at any times at all) share data with the other drivers during his career? I can see why FA wasn't happy at Mclaren...

Hamilton must be the master of car development then: look were McLaren started the season and where are now.

Sorry wrong! at first FA had probably shared his knowledge with all the team set up data ect, the funny thing was LH was better at using it, then FA not happy being undermined by a rookie stopped sharing and in fact tried to pay his engineers a bonus if they got his car better than Lewis's, thats until Ron Dennis stopped it.

Lewis's form dropped of in the later part of that season, but not that much, as it is considered he beat FA thats how its written in the history books.
So how far he has come on in car developing I'm uncertain, but it's looking ok I'd say looking at the recent results.

Well, I think that this part has been overblown by the British press. I´ve heard that Alonso just wanted to invite his guys to have a dinner and a beer. Or something like that.

 

Alonso offered his mechanics a £650 bonus for every race in which he beats Lewis Hamilton is how it was reported.

And also bear in mind he was being paid £14m a year and Lewis just £250,000 for his rookie season.

I don't always believe what I read believe me, but I haven't read anything to the contrary.
