Here's my problem: I have a 2 car garage and can fit 2 other cars on my driveway, my 08 430 spider and the SWMBO's CL550 in the garage, my son's supercharged range rover and daughter's sport range rover on the driveway. I also have a gmc truck (daily driver) that I park on the street. I live in a gated community that does not allow street parking for home owners and I recently got a letter that they are not going to give anymore parking permits to park my truck on the street. Now the big problem is that my youngest just turned 16 and I have to get her a car. I can probably convince the board to allow me to my truck on the street but not 2 cars. What do you guys thing is a good solution for this problem? Driving the 430 to work is not an option because I can't take it to construction sites. I have an 9ft high ceiling with 8' and a half clearance so I don't think I could instal a lift. What would you do? I couldn't sleep all night because I don't want to sell my car.
your gated community probably does not have authority of the street, if it is a public/city street. In our hoa, we don't allow vehicles over 1 ton to be parked on the street, but we basically can't do much about it other than ask them to move, as it is a city street. how about parking one of your cars at a neighbors house, rent a storage unit for the 430, or build an additional garage ? do you have enough height in the garage for a lift?
also, lets say you had more than 3 children, say 4 that were all of driving age - then what would they do?
I have been thinking about renting out a neighbors parking spot but I can't find a house that is close to me that has an empty spot. I don't have the height for a lift. I wish I had the space to build a garage but that is out of the question. I guess if you had more than 4 kids they won't be all living with you, maybe at the neighbors house.
Well sounds like you do indeed have a problem, my solution would be challenge the committee or whomever is responsible for this rule. Its clearly not reasonable, for example what happens when you have familly stay over?
If you are a visitor you can get a parking permit for over a month if you renew the permit at the gate every 2 weeks. Most gated communities force owners to pay for a street permit which is a very reasonable solution. The bigger problem is that my next door neighbor is a member of the HOA and let's just say he doesn't enjoy having a neighbor with a ferrari, people are very jealous and especially in this economy. I remember people enjoying the fact that their neighbor has a nice car or even looking at a nice car, but you can't imagine how many noise and speed complaint letters I've gotten in the past year when I wasn't even speeding.
Check out this thread on garage lifts. Even though you have a ceiling height of 9', depending on the lift purchased/relocation of garage door opener/what cars you have it might still work. I know that my ceiling height of 9' 5" was enough for my 360 and M3, although I haven't gotten around to making the actual install yet.... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252203 You aren't going to be able to put your range rover on the lift or under it, but the 430/MB might be a possible combination. If money isn't a problem, I've seen lifts which go DOWN rather then up. Basically they dig out your garage floor and you drive on a platform which drops down...and you then drive on top of the "roof" of the structure for a garage floor....
I might be in the minority, but HOA's in general are for the benefit of all homeowners. without them, there is nothing to stop your neighbor from parking a boat,5th wheel, or some jet ski's in the front yard. Not to mention other things, like having the trim painted in bright pink. oh, and then they typically also maintain the common areas, so that our neighborhoods don't look like the ones we don't want to live in.
The secret to doing without an HOA is to have a house with privacy and space around it so that it does not matter what they do. Most people with high end houses dont park ugly crap in their driveway or front yard. I am in the construction business too. I drive what ever I want back and forth to the office and leave my truck (Escalade) there. People are always jealous of someone else's percieved sucess. Ignore them.
Buy/Build another house.....One of the major factors in making our decision to sell our house and build one was the 2 car garage we had. Now I can fit 7 Image Unavailable, Please Login
i cannot, for the freaking life of me, understand why people buy houses in these "communities" and then have to suffer though all of this bull**** with where to park, where your trash can is, and so on. i do NOT BELIEVE for a second that it helps your property values. the crap you guys deal with in these neighborhoods is baffling. i was careful where i moved to also ... as in i dare somebody to come here and tell me what to do, or where to park on my land. seriously, i hope it works out for you.
I understand that a HOA does a lot of good things but come on there's a limit for how many rules one can live under. We are planning on buying another house but it has to be after my youngest daughter finishes her senior year in High school, so I have to figure out some solution for a year or two. I sent the HOA a letter 2 weeks ago in response to this whole thing and I told them that they could either buy my house for market value or they have to figure out a different solution, but selling one of my cars or kids(lol) is out of the question.
You don't have enough yard space to put in an extra lane of driveway, or at the least, a single parking space?
No I live in huntington beach,CA and the lots here are very small the HOA would not accept it anyway.
Okay, I live on a private street, I guess it is not the same as what you are in, though I do have a couple questions. Maybe your kids need to share one car. Not sure how old they are but a 100K RR and a 50K plus RR are pretty nice cars for kids, and you drive a GMC truck. Also, I do not know where you live, your profile is not filed out, but if you live in an area that there is snow, who plows your street? I have 5 year old twins, and when the time comes for them to drive, they will share a car, ad not a 100k one.
