The Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-door coupé sports car produced by Ferrari from 1987 to 1992 as the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO. From 1987 to 1989 it held the title as the world's fastest street-legal production car, and during its years of production, was Ferrari's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car.
The factory never intended to race the F40, but the car saw competition as early as 1989 when it debuted in the Laguna Seca round of the IMSA, appearing in the GTO category, with a LM evolution model driven by Jean Alesi, finishing third to the two faster space framed four wheel drive Audi 90 and beating a host of other factory backed space frame specials that dominated the races. Despite lack of factory backing, the car would soon have another successful season there under a host of guest drivers such as Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Jacques Laffite and Hurley Haywood taking a total of three second places and one third.

Model shown is a modified 1/18 Burago built by Manfred Schmickl of Germany.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did that F40LM cost?

How would somebody go about having one of these made? How long did it take from start to finish? Who do I contact?

I tried to send a message to Manfred Schmickl, but it would not go through.

Beautiful models Gerd - thanks for posting. A high quality 1:18 F40 LM is a holy grail to many collectors.

Is he using the Merikit transkit or is everything from scratch? Thanks.

Thank you, the builder is also using a small portion from Meri transkit.
But most of his work is from scratch.

When I was trying to get a kit representing my ex car (F40 LM GTE 88779) I discovered some good one in Japan to be built quite easilly in fact, I have done one, I will try to find it back to send you pics.
The advantage is that a lot of details are much more acurate than the buraggo basis, and for people who have been involved one an LM or a GTE, that make sense to look after good kits, have a look on internet in Japan!

Cars actually looks to be the 1989 Monza LM test car. IMSA spec cars were slightly different LM's.

Thank you for your comment on my F40 #60 Imsa version.
The photo of the original car is shown.
I took that pics from a book called “F40 Da Corsa” by Sergio Cassano. I hope this will clear your comment.
