Hello everyone! I am more than ready to get the TR back on the road. It is due some maintenance that is beyond what I have time for right now. I want to get the engine out and do the belts, valves, ignition and fuel injection check, and the water pump upgrade. I have a shop in Texas I really want to get it to, but the logistics are tough. Does anyone have any suggestions on shops in the southeast (other than Ferrari of Atlanta, I plan to call them anyway) that have a lot of experience with this engine? I will probably get it out to Texas, but I want to do the research first and make sure before I invest this much time in a haul.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You might want to check with Old World Motorcars in Tucker, GA (no affiliation, just a suggestion).

We most definitely can save you from the hassle and cost of shipping to and from Texas. Our techs have plenty of experience with Tr's. Please give me a call at 770-938-0908 and we can discuss it.

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks for the recommendation Andy.

Try Karl Troy at www.Europeanroadandracing.com in Charleston, he has done work on my TR's and is the best (and reasonable) I have ever seen. Well worth the extra miles.

You should also consider Ferrari of Atlanta. My BB512i is there now having a major done. I found their prices to be about the same or less than quotes I received from several independent shops in the Atlanta area. I have always been well pleased with any work I have had done there in the past. Plus, FoA has the wherewithal to stand by what they do which is something that all independent shops do not have.

I dropped my headers off at Professional Cryogenic today...cost to ceramic coat in satin silver is $350 which ain't bad in that the BB512i headers are basically 4 sets of 3 into 2 headers... they will be ready in a week...http://www.procryo.com/

Didn't you coat them a few years ago? What is the expected life of ceramic coating

Remember to get the engine and the engine compartment detailed/cleaned before the engine is reinstalled. It'll look good at the car shows.

I did...about 7 years ago...some of the coating had peeled near the flanges where the headers connect to the head...so for $350, I decided to just get it done again...

Backmarker, a complete cleaning and detail is part of the service. Frank's car is in the detail department as I type. It already looks pretty good as he takes good care of his car.

I had a set done on the Z almost 20 years ago. Mind you these are plain steel headers. After 170K still look like new. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

    Ciao,

I agree mine should have lasted lower...but for some reason they peeled at the flange where the headers exit the heads. Of course, ceramic coating your headers inside and out is more than just cosmetic. It also acts as a thermal barrier which holds heat in the header which accelerates the exhaust gases for increased performance and lowers engine compartment temperatures, which is a big plus in a mid-engine car such as a Boxer

I still have not got my car yet. I'm getting a detail also. They should be calling any day now. BUT I'm NOT going to rush them.
