It was cool meeting a few new friends there today. I'm slowly uploading my photos here: http://s985.photobucket.com/albums/ae335/Callaway-C8/Cars%20and%20Coffee%20Dallas/ Save them soon, as I'll likely delete the images when I upload next month's C&C pics. It's really nice to see and hear the cars speed off, but I think people with high hp and no traction control need to be really careful. Stomp on it from a 20 or 30 mph roll so you don't lose traction. Starting in 2nd gear could be safer as well. I don't want to see police or strict speed limits in place outside the event, so we need a bit more self-conduct here! Speaking of which, what in the world was the deal with police on the Tollway as well as Mockingbird and Lemmon today?! I saw 7 people get pulled over. 4 of which were southbound on the Tollway while I was going north to the event at 7:45am. Off-topic I suppose... but I had a cop pass me on my right (near Bachman Lake at 1am) on Northwest Highway, and he was going at least 60 or 70 in a 35 mph zone without his lights on. If I decided to change lanes without seeing him coming up on me way too fast, he would have hit me. >:|
Got there late, but it was fun meeting some fellow owners. And the F50 was icing on the cake! Haven't seen one seen Nicolas Cage bought the Azzurro one from Boardwalk; yeah, it's been a long time.
How to ruin an event that has turned out pretty cool Axx around on an OPEN PUBLIC ROAD RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT ******bag!
That's one of the things that Vipers do best, I guess he thought it would be better to turn off the traction control & endanger lives.
The BMW M1 made the show for me. This is the ONLY BMW I've ever liked. The rest are too "car shaped" (basic hood, roof, & trunk...a three year old could draw one...no sporty style). I have been longing to see one of those in the flesh again for some time now. Very nice example (& owner). Thanks for bringing it out.
I had to leave before 9 but the place was filling up, another great turnout. I missed all the drama of the hot-doggers exiting stupidly. Let it be known that their recklessness is not indicative of the majority of attendees, and we hope that C & C will still continue. How about that Jaguar C-Type! That was a personal highlight. Anyone know if it was the real deal? I didn't see the owner to talk to. What a FANTASTIC car!
Pretty sure Vipers don't have any traction control to turn off. Edmunds seems to agree. He ought to have just been more careful.
I don't believe they had ABS brakes until the 2002 model year either. I used to see tons and tons of Vipers with front end damage for sale on ebay in the early 2000s. They're a little bit too raw and powerful for their own good.
Carolyn, your pictures always make the cars look fantastic. I assume you're using some sort of filter on your camera lens???
"Just" a viper...600 HP for $90K...STOCK! There would only be a few copperheads running around. I wouldn't knock the car. Also, no traction control in a viper, as previously stated. Bottom line, the guy doesn't know how to drive one...you can't drive it like a Vette, or a Ferrari. They all need to be driven differently.
Yikes, "just a Viper?" You won't catch me saying that. I really like Vipers. Never driven one, but it's American and the '96-'02 GTS was gorgeous at the time, and still is, though the corners of the front valance and stock wheels do look really out of style these days. I've seen that Viper SRT-10 convertible with hardtop before. I would doubt it's stock. It's probably well over 800 horsepower. Cut the guy some slack. He overdid it, he's probably embarrassed about it, and nobody got hurt.
I wasn't there but if it is the car I think it is, it's not stock, and yes, he overdid it. With the crowd, I know everyone wants to show what their car has and wind through gears. That said, you should know how to do that without losing control, especially with people so close to the road. With that much HP and torque, and no traction control, he shouldn't have just "floored" it after already sliding a little bit. I agree he was probably embarrased, but I think he is very lucky no one was hurt.
