Has anyone used a gear reduction starter, if so, would you recommend it? Also, where is a good place to purchase one?

I installed a Gustafson gear reduction starter in my 308, and have used them in several Jaguars over the years, and they are great. I'm not sure if they make one with an adapter for the 348, but you can contact Gustafson Specialty in Glouchester, Mass. and he's tell you. Or contact one of this suppliers:

Excellent product, well worth looking into.

I bought one for my 328 from the guy who sells 'em on ebay...contrary to the auction ad, it was definitely not easy to install, as one of the wires coming off was just barely long enough, and the round plastic sleeve that protects a little clip that attaches to the starter was actually too small for the clip(had to 'enlarge' it a bit :) ).

That said, the starter works great, no problems in the several months that I've been using it.

If you shop the ebay guy, be aware that he has some listed for around $425, and some for around $385, so compare pricing and shipping for your best deal.

Btw, I'm not much of a mechanic, etc., but found this 'little replacement' job to be by far the most difficult thing I've yet done to my car. Extremely cramped space, tough to maneuver, etc., was just really, really difficult. Doesn't look like it'd be that way, but is was.
