Very very sad. This sort of thing happens far too often in south Florida.

More has come out. Her daughter recently met a guy, I guess he was bad news.

Here's the story from the news last night:

Man confesses to Miami Beach killings
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said a man walked into the Miami Beach Police department and confessed to killing his girlfriend and her mother, and then he led officers to the crime scene.

Miami Beach Police began investigating the deaths at around 3:30 a.m. Monday, at 1341 15 St, after 23-year-old Hassan White walked into the police department and said he was responsible for the deaths of two women.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue units first entered the unit as police waited for the search warrant. Police then discovered the bodies of 55-year-old Michelle Vinas and 24-year-old Gisselle Vinas.

"They're victims of a stabbing. The investigation is on-going and that subject is in custody. We are not looking for any subjects at this time. We don't have anybody at large. We also located the weapon to this incident inside the apartment as well, or what we believe to be the weapon," said detective Juan Sanchez.

White told police he was at his girlfriend's apartment when he grabbed a large knife from the kitchen. Unprovoked, he stabbed Gisselle in the neck once and then several times in the stomach killing her. He then took photographs of the victim. White left the apartment and came back. He saw Michelle parking her car. He approached her and walked her back to the apartment armed with the same knife. He entered the apartment and he told Michelle he killed her daughter. He then fatally stabbed her.

Police does not have a motive as yet. White is being held with out bond on two counts of first degree murder.

Thanks everybody. I was talking to somebody trying to rationalize this and it has been difficult. Michele was my "right hand man" on my largest account at my old company. There was a considerable amount of entertainment with that piece of business and so many times she became my "date." I got to know her well. I just can't say enough good things about her.

As I was trying to rationalize it, I thought about how there are some people in life who ask for trouble by living on the edge. Michele was the polar opposite.

I am truly going to miss her.

Yeah - 's why I always make eye contact [not a "care stare", but, still] when I or someone else heads out the door, even if presumably - we'll be back next day. Some outcomes don't surprise us, others... shock us.

In the light of this tradgedy maybe organizing a fund raiser wiht the cars for victims of crimes may be something to think about. I am sure our friends from the PD will know the right charitable organization. Do a car show maybe find a restaurant that will sponsor some food for doin it in their parking lot. Get the word out. Hook up with a TV or newspaper and raise a little cash.

It will not bring these two fine ladies back but at least we can use this to give someone else a choice. A womans shelter for abused women or as I said victims of crimes.

    Ed? suggestions?
