Sorry to change the subject, but is the white belt line from the factory? If so, it's the only 308 other than mine I have ever seen like that.

Borranis look good on the older cars... I have seen Dayton wires on a 308 and 328 looks better than Borrani but 3x8 don't wear wire wheels well.

Hey try it, can't be much worst than the tired, dated factory wheel.

That looks like a chrome insert in the reveal line to me, Brian!

    Hard to tell though.....

    folks,

i honestly think this is one of the most elegant looking 308's we have pictures posted of on this site. the wheels while different are very distictive and look swanky as hell!!!

compare this pretty example to what is often posted on the 360/430/dub wheels section and tell me that this black, borrani shod beauty is not head and shoulders above? come on guys, this is a tastefully turned out ride that would clear a pathway at any nice night spot!

    best,

    pcb

It was also inherited in this form, if you'll note his LogIn...

I also agree he is right to leave it this way....

    Thanks Pete.

Brian's is a rare 'one off' also, due to it's wheels and other features......

Looks like he's removed the pic from his Profile, though...

I'm not sure he could replace them with the 5-spokes. A little hard to tell but those look like splined wheels and he did say it came with a lead hammer. If that's the case then either someone spent a lot of money and time to convert it, or there really were a couple delivered from the factory.

    SWANKY

    Perfect.

Who the hell are we kidding with the vomiting and the tut tutting and the "oh lord what hath they done?!?!?". We all drive 308s cause they're full of swank.
Bravo borrani-308 men of the world, we salute you!

Ok, lest you and I get in a fight right before we meet each other in Baltimore, calling the factory wheels tired is like calling Mr. Enzo Ferrari an idiot. HE APPROVED those wheels for the 3x8 cars. Was he wrong?

for the 80s they were fine but this is a new millennium with much better available. get with the times please.

3x8, and especially 348 wheels belong beside Hawaiian shirts buried deep somewhere and forgotten.

better yet put 'em beside my 348 wheels waiting for the next rubbish day to be taken to the landfill where they belong.

Daytona/Boxer/308/328 wheels have historic roots, probably one of Ferrari's most iconic wheels. Here's a 312P where the driver forgot his Hawaiian shirt. I think the 512S LeMans cars also ran Ferrari's signature five-spoke.

(There are some nice modern wheels -- 360 CS, 512 TR -- but none of them are all that legendary on their own.)

The only way to pull off the look of aftermarket wheels on a 308/328 is with a complete set of Yosemite Sam mud flaps!... OR .. A large ricers wing.

Thank you again for the kind words. I agree the look of Bob’s 308 is not “stock” but since these cars were hand built and modified by the factory or dealer to customer tastes what are we talking about? Whatever pleases the owner of the car in question is what’s important to the person who spent the money to buy the car. They may regret their choices if no one else likes it when it comes time to sell, but what product in our “free choice” economy isn’t like that? The “white” belt line is indeed a chrome molding applied by Bob. I have driven and loved this car for 26 years and as long as I own it will stay the way it is (with any necessary mechanical upgrades that are not visible).

To each his own. Black 308 looks OK with the wires. Personally I like the factory 5 spoke but who cares. I'm getting tired of what is the best and I'm sure some of you guys are too. '79, '76, QV, 328, '84, '85, Who cares. Everybody has an opinion.
If it is yours and you like it that is what counts. I can buy and drive anything I want and I bought a 308. One I like. I paid for it, I drive it.

What a great pix of a georgeous machine! Those wheels are sooooo perfect on that sculpture. Got a cigarette :) BTW: I love that wheel chock.

    As for wires on a 308 - - - - - - - whatever?? I gotta look at that 312P again!

Thank you Kim, but no crow eating required for any one on FChat; we all like what we like and make our choices to spend our money based on those likes and dislikes. I have seen things done to cars that make me ill too. Bob’s Ferrari has won First Place and Third Place trophies in area car shows. They have “professional judges” so I have no idea what kind of car(s) I was competing against, but there were no other Ferraris there. Do I really care about someone else’s opinion of beauty? Not really. Drive and enjoy. That’s what Bob intended to do when he retired, but cancer got him first. Now it’s my goal to enjoy the car enough for both of us. That’s about all I can do for him now.

That 312P is even more amazing in person. I saw it at the Nurburgring last October. It has to be the lowest car I have ever seen. It is low, wide, and flat....much more than the photos could ever portray.
