What is the build month of your VIN plate? (or last 5 of the VIN itself)? I bet we can figure out approximately when the seats were changed, based on other cars in the registry. I'm guessing assembly #5277 was the cutover.
Unfortunately I do not believe this deal will go thru. The seller does not reduce the price based on the conditions of the car (lack of service history and gearbox problem). Also, my father took a lot of detailed photos and apart from the (extremely) sticky center console, about 90% of all interior parts have shrunk (!?!) covering: door panels covering, dashtop covering, glovebox covering, radio lid covering.... all have shrunk.... The tires are not the legal size ones, and some rust bubbles under the paint are already surfacing... The asking price was 35.500 euros (about 50.000 usd), I offered 25.000 euros (35.500 usd), but not with conviction... I already started to check some 348TS on the market.... at around 44.000 euros (63.000 usd) .... with 48.000km (30.000 miles) And a 348 Spider at 52.500 euros (73.000 usd) with 60.000km (37500 miles)... I know the prices are a lot diferent from huge markets such as the USA, but what about the value gap between the 348TB , TS and Spider? How much..... and is it worth not only as usage perks but also as long term increase in value? I believe that the bottom question is: What are the benefits of the Targa roof and open roof, both to the 348 driver and owner.... Best regards, Ricardo
Ah, sorry to hear mate. Yeah, best stay away then mate. Sounds like this car has seen A LOT of sun and the leather/interior was never cared for. Yep, best stay away then mate. Rust? You BETTER stay away from this rust bucket then! The seller should take 15.000 Euros for it! Yeah, not cheap mate. The 348 TS sells for a little more money here in Australia too. As does the 348 Spider. That is the last of the 348's, so they are mainly late 93 cars and 94/95. They are around AU $20K+ more for a Spider here in Australia. Here in Australia, a typical TS costs around $10K more than a TB. The 348 Spider is around $10K more than a 348 TS which makes it around $20K more than a TB. The benefit of having a TS is you can have the best of both worlds. You can have an open top, or place on the hard top to have a "TB". The Spider can have the best of both worlds also. Top up or top down. The 348 TB is the stiffest of them all, of course. The 348 TS has a little more flex and the 348 Spider has the most flex. It is ALL down to personal preference Ricardo. As much as the I love the 348 Spider, I probably would never buy one. I would probably own a TS and I will always own a TB! Best of luck with your search for a 348 mate! I hope have better luck next time!
Thanks for the support... I can confess that the first thing I will ever to do to my 1st Ferrari will be to stick those yellow badges on the front fenders... that is my dream since I was a kid... But if this goes the TS way, the second thing I will be doing is to repaint that targa roof, body colour....
Then I am indeed confused about your car and seats. Mine is 86426. I have a friend with 86427. Both of ours have the seats shown in my picture above (not like the 'flat bottom' one). Maybe is a USA market thing... but your 348 is a USA/CDN car, correct?
At least this thread will help clear this odd flat seat issue.... something eventually for the 348 Buyer's Guide? The car I mentioned had the first registration in the UK, inspite beeing LHD. The last VIN digits are 82467...
Hello Ricardo , I think we are from the same country ! My opinion is KEEP LOOKING ! I bought my TR in the UK last year , but before i looked at several cars here in Portugal , one of them was the 348 spider you talked about . It was in good condition BUT my heart was on the TR!!!! Be carefull , make all the questions , drive the car , have it inspected by your father since some times we can get carried away by our dream!!! That seems a very early 348 . This model had lots of improvements during it´s life , the later the best ! All the best
Daniel, May I sugest to get an option list for the 348 and check if indeed there was a "big driver seat" option? Cheers, R
What is your S/N and how did you find this out? My 89 tb is 82360. I had read that the first 100 cars had short black antennas on the roof. Mine has none. Greg
The originallity of the 348 TB is a mistery for me. There are lots of differences to be noticed. For example the antenna, color of the logo's, etc. I think lot's of these things could just be a buying option at the dealers?
Ok, Now the search is at the following step: One 348TS Yellow, at 41.500 euros (58.100 USD), 56.000Km. It is a 1993 car, with the front mounted batery and a very good overall condition. It was imported in 2006/7 and has sitted in the showroom since, beeing the dealership advertising icon. The down side is the yellow(?) colour and the need for the big maintenance. One 1993 348 Spider Red coloured, at 49.500 euros (69.300 USD), 60.500Km. It is a 1993 car, serviced in 2007 by a Ferrari Guru. It has the reputation of beeing one of the fastest 348 (even better than 355s) and best looking (overall, including hood) and detailed Spider. Does the price worth it? How do you look at yellow 348s? I personaly prefer the 348 TB and TS, but of course I am not blind to the potential value of the Spider, with about 1000 units produced and the fact of beeing a complete roadster. Any comments/advices? Cheers, R
The yellow 348TS sounds very nice!! It is a beautiful colour in person mate and I would not hesitate owning one in that colour! If it needs a service, thats ok. Make an offer on the car and try and negotiate the price down a little to cover the cost of the major service. There are MANY Fchatters here with yellow Ferraris! They look great in pics and better in person!! Good luck!!
I realize my point is moot since the car in question is no longer being considered but I want you to be aware... Just did some "minor" work to my gearbox. Third gear synchro was all done. The synchro ring itself was $1440.00 for the outer and $500 each for the inners.. Parts for the repair totalled $5940. Granted, that included a clutch plate and throw out bearing but there's no way you get a sourced gearbox for 2k - 3k. I also noticed the car in question had the Motronic 2.7. I was under the impression that the 2.5 system was installed on earlier models and the 2.7 wasn't available until the 91 model year. Maybe I'm wrong. I agree about the appearance of the rear wheel, a Photographic illusion. The car needs spacers. Based on the info gleaned from this thread, the seller will be lucky to get 30K USD for that car and your lucky he didn't take your offer.
In Australia they are. Spiders are advertised for AU $20K+ more here in Australia. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/results.aspx?N=834+1216+1247+1282+1252+1246+4294966380+4294954992&keywords=
I'm told Australia has this thing down there called... and I think this is right...... sunshine? Being based in Scotland, it's not something I've had a great deal of experience with of late. All the best, Andrew.
Cheers mate! Where I live...........we have sunshine around 99.99% of the year! I love it!! We have a very small rain season which is coming up, but its been sunny ALL year to date! Perfect Ferrari driving weather and I feel sorry for you guys that live in that area that dont often see the sun.
