Hi I am getting help with calculations for a new a chassis for my 355. In order to get this as correct as possible we need the unsprung mass of the front and rear of a 355. Has anyone actually determined this? We have made some calculations for shock and spring combinations but it turns out that this is a parameter that would be really good to know. I guess I could do it with scales on the garage floor but since Im lazy Id thought I ask before doing that ;-)
Found figures for the F50, wonder how well these figures measure up to the F355? front 99 lbs (40 Kg) rear 121 lbs (54 Kg)
My car has:: 741 pounds on the left front 727 pounds on the right front 960 on the left rear 940 on the right rear You can add them up as you like.
I understood unsprung weight to be the weight of all components not held up by the suspension. Need the weight of wheels, brake system, etc. Everything outside the wheel hub. Bill
I think Mitch answered the other question, how much does a 355 weigh with full tank of gas ;-) I am still looking for the other though...
So subract the weight from the F50 numbers from the individual weights from my cornerweighting readouts and, presto, you have sprung weight and unsprung weight. Now that eXcel program can go to town.
Got some data from a guy that had done it the hard way (picking it appart) with a Nissan 370Z and the figures he got was 95 lbs front and 100 lbs rear. Looks like the difference between different cars is fairly small... Correction: 86 + 90 is the correct data he got. Control arm with brake caliper - 16 lbs Wheel+ Hoosier slick - 36 lbs Upright + rotor - 30 lbs Shock + spring - 8 /2 = 4lbs 86 lbs on each front corner Control arm w/upright/half shaft and caliper - 40lbs Wheel/slick - 36lbs Rotor - 10lbs spring/shock 8/2=4lbs 90 lbs per rear corner
