If the forecast changes in the right direction, the Boxer may make it to the "Exotic Parking" area. If it's raining, I'm a spectator. A little bit of rain could be nice. I'll probably show up early (as a spectator) to beat the heat and crazy people in case it IS raining. there's still a 60% chance that it might make it to the Exotic Parking area.....haven't rechecked the weather yet though. At this rate, the actual car show will be now held out in the parking lot.....
Itsa Ferrari. I'm trying to show a little class now. Speedo, chains, and Piloti's. Trying to find fake chest hair on ebay. Perhaps a cut up bear rug will do. Is doing the back cliche these days ?
Really need a rain date for next year. I know I'm not alone when I say old Italian electric's and rain don't mix. Most won't take the chance of running in to it.
well, not exactly...the 330 appears to have them, but when I take her for safety inspection they need a little help in going back and forth...thank goodness for my understanding inspection guy.....as far as the BBi goes, they do go back and forth, but don't know if they will actually deflect water...
No offense, but who cares if it's got wiper blades, old ectronic or whether it's a Ferrari, Chevy, vintage or brand new...... who wants to go to a car show in the rain?
Rain is 80% tomorrow. Isn't looking good. I don't want to get caught out in Grapevine during a heavy rain, and I'm not even bringing a car for the show.
Well I made it back and the Ferrari is cleaned up but it doesn't look like it will make it to the show. It shows rain all day tomorrow... This sucks because there will be very few cars and spectators. If this was a Mustang show I would understand the "rain or shine" theory... Driving an older Italian car in the rain is like riding your bike in the snow, it just doesn't happen.
100% chance of rain tomorrow My car is ready, but it wasn't a lot of fun driving it in the rain tonight. I'm not worried about the machine not running in the rain, I'm worried about a show field with 3 days of heavy precip. I hope someone brings a tow truck...
With so many people planning on not showing up also increases someones chances of taking home 1st place or best in show. Let's see what tomorrow brings!
I understand, I'm just saying that if it rains what's the point as no one will be there to look at the cars that may show up....
Winning by forfeit.... I think I'll bring my F150 and slap a yellow shield on it and see what I win, after all it is red and it's not like anyone will be there to tell the difference. Josh
Well it is 6:45 AM on Saturday and it is NOT raining in North Dallas, however it has been. I have spent about 20 hours on the Rosso but I think I will take one of the yellows. I know the person that owned it prior to me had it out in the rain on at least one occasion and the wipers actually work-or did at inspection time. An 80% chance of rain means that there is a 20% chance of no rain and these events take a ton of planning so I say lets go for it. Bob I hope you do not mind the substitution.
WIDESPREAD LIGHT TO MODERATE RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO FALL ACROSS NORTH TEXAS. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL AVERAGE 1/4 TO 1/2 OF AN INCH THROUGH 10 AM. LOOKING FURTHER AHEAD... HEAVIER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL COME THIS AFTERNOON AND BRING WIDESPREAD 1 TO 3 INCHES WITH ISOLATED LOCATIONS SEEING 5 INCHES. THIS HEAVY RAIN MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING... ESPECIALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20.
Rumor is that 1st went to a 1964 Amphicar with a Lancia badge clear-taped on the nose. 2nd went to a Giallo F-150 with shields tastefully rendered in Crayon on the front fenders. (Josh would have been a shoe-in with his Rosso Corsa F-150, had he shown). There was no 3rd, as the first two were the only vehicles to slog their way into the swam-, er, lawn. Thankfully, there was no confirmed sighting of a Speedo-clad enthusiast - again, only a rumor.
Yeah, it was WET! There was still almost 30 cars, and a decent number of spectators with ponchos and umbrellas. The place got muddy, but as Bob was happy to tell us, there was gelato, Italian sausage, wine and soda. And "in 5 minutes", there will be awards The best news is that the event is confirmed for 2010, and we're promised sunny and 81 degrees... Don and Caroline picked up 12 cylinder Ferrari champ, the Mangusta won Other Italian, the Best of Show went to the Alfa Montreal, The 80s Qporte won the Maser class, and the red Ermini won Best Race Car. I picked up V8 class winner and Mayor's Choice. I can't recall the rest of the awards. i made it out to take a look, looks like it never showed up but I saw the Intermeccanica Apollo on the way there heading the other direction... either they couldn't find the place or had just left
I had to "Bail" as the Dallas Home and Garden show is this weekend as well. Glad that there are some real die hards in our community. So Don Rose won 12 cyl with his Yellow 512M. The Yellow Rose of Texas. Hope there is no conflict next year so I can attend. And thanks to Bob for the effort in doing this show.
I fully understand your question about wanting a rain date, but it is impossibe for us to do. We are always going to be on the weekend before GrapeFest to support Grapevine's wine festival that begins on the Thursday following our show and also tie into the GrapeFest Vintners' Auction Classic held Saturday night after the show. ICF registration includes two tickets - a $50 value -to this event. We will be updating our website www.italiancarfest.org with pictures from yesterday's show and information about our 2010 show. We hope to see you next year at Nash Farm. Bob Dezzany ICF Chairman
