355 F1 shift speed

    I was having a discussion with a 430 owner over in the New England section on F1 shift speeds and couldn't find much info. Eventually I found a link stating 150 ms in sport mode. So I was curious and had to find out...

    Below is some data I collected with a Gtech pro, it picks up rpms off the voltage variation through the power supply. I found this to be absolutely spot on in my STi; I didn't have time to do the calibration for the 355 so this data is a bit off in actual rpm's I think - there's no way it drops that much between shifts, although the peak seemed pretty close.

    This was taken from a rolling start in 1st, in sport mode, shifting between 8k-8500. Both the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts break the tires free, and the data seems to show that.

    Unfortunately the resolution isn't great, as best I can tell shift speed was greater than 150 ms, closer to 200.

    When I get a chance to calibrate rpm's for the 355 I'll post new data here. Enjoy!

    I thought it was 250 ms? It's faster than me driving a 355 manual for sure. I was pretty quick with my old Lotus Exige S, but the tranny cost $1800 new in the box, so the risk was just a wee bit smaller.

    I don't know, I searched for 15 min and couldn't find anything authoritative quoting shift speed. One published story said 150. Measuring between disengage 1st (revs start to drop) and engage 2nd (revs start to come back up) it was a bit under 200...but depends on exactly how it's measured I guess. Either way it's @#$! quick and I love it :D

    Listening to the 458 shift is incredible----Makes our F1 355's seem like they have Mack truck trans in them...:D

    I suspect that the engine spark is cut (div-2) durring the gear change to take power out of the motor and lessen the hit on the transmisison teeth. I further suspect that this is what your Gtech pro is seeing.

    Edited to add--my calculator says that the division ratio is 2.25. That means that the ECUs cut 1/2 the power and oscilate between cylinder banks. Try multiplying the data in the cut part of the graph by 2.25 and see how the plot then looks.

    How much quicker will it be in a Stradale?? :)

    Hmmmm.....

    Breaks the tires loose in the 2-3 shift? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to pull that one off...YET! My car's due for it's belt service this winter and I'm going to tell Richard and Fernando that is the goal!

    It for sure chirped them :D 1-2 is no problem, 2-3 isn't every time...probably depends on pavement condition, etc. Before any trouble starting 348 owners chime in, I wasn't in sand or water ;)

    Just for comparison here's some old data off my '04 STi (zero tire spin with the AWD), a relatively pokey 0.6 sec shift time. On this one I know the revs are spot on -
