Of course. You need to account for extra tires produced for inventory and ones used to replace the original factory set after a few track days. If you assume that they produced 1680 of these tires in total, then we have 1181 coupes and 499 16M's (worst case). Realistically, it probably means the number of scud coupes produced is around 1000 or less.

Does the Pirelli tire have a design problem that leads to a failure or is it something done during the manufacturing process that creates the potential for a problem. If it's a tire design problem then a solution won't be available quickly. What other replacement tire in the correct sizes and compound does Pirelli have to meet the speed potential of the Ferrari?

From the "lead Tech" at FoS this morning.........

"I also received preliminary information on the Scuderia/16m tire recall. We will be checking serial numbers on the rear tires and replacing units within a range.

If the vehicle has traveled more than 625 miles as a courtesy Ferrari will also install new front tires even though they are not involved in the recall.

Please get your vehicles over the 625 limit before coming in for tires. I have no tires currently and may need vehicles here as the tires will be shipped for specific vin numbers for tracking purposes.

I know you speak with many of the other Scud 16m owners so spread the word. I will be contacting them this week. I will update as I have actual tire availability information."

    Hope others find this useful.

My dealer just ordered 4 new tires per the recall campaign. I believe the new tires have "XT" on them instead of "XB". Should be here in a week.

Pirelli will be supplying the tires directly, free of charge to the dealer. No need for any dealer to purchase tires for this campaign.

Yes it does. The dealer will then submit a warranty claim thru FNA for the labor.

    That is correct.

See the original post by Terak. The letter states the replaced tires will have 'XB' marking. 'XT' will be the replacement sent by Pirelli.

FYI. The recall was effective in Canada last week. If you have more than 1000 kms on your car, all 4 tires will be replaced.

I believe through the dealer. The only reason I know is that my neighbor owns some tire stores and I purchased back up tires from him and he furnished Pirelli with my address. I've been in contact with the dealer that I purchased my car though and they are also aware that there's recall coming soon. As soon as there's confirmation of the recall in the U.S., I would contact your local dealer.

Does anybody know where/if the ip code is located on the tire or if the marking K1 appears anywhere? I purchased a set of rears for my CS and I believe they may have been Scuderia replacements, my tires have the XB marking and the same specs as listed.

    Thanks

Here's a copy of a letter I received from Pirelli today:

    Pirelli Tire LLC
    September 9th,2009.
    Dear Customer,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor
Vehicle Safety Act. Pirelli Tyre SpA has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle
    safety exist in Pirelli 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 LEFT PZERO CORSA and 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1
RIGHT PZERO CORSA tires which our records indicate you have either received as original
equipment tires on Ferrari 430 Scuderia or Scuderia Spider 16M or purchased from the
    replacement market.
The possibility exists that a partial tread separation and/or belt edge separation could occur when
the vehicle is driven at extremely high speeds (at and over 168 mph (270 kmh)) for prolonged
periods of time. This condition could result in a loss of air, creating the potential for a loss of
vehicle control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
    The tires are the 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 LEFT PZERO CORSA and 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1
RIGHT PZERO CORSA with a serial number that starts with the letters XB. The serial numbers
are molded into one side of the tire approximately 1” above the place where the tire touches the
wheel and immediately to the right of the letters DOT.
The tires being recalled have the following serial number range on the sidewall.
    For 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 LEFT PZERO CORSA
    XB VN J782 2407 through XB VN J782 2409
    For 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 RIGHT PZERO CORSA
    XB VN J783 2307 through XB VN J783 2409
The last four ( 4 ) digits on the right in each case are coded to indicate the date of production.
    From week # 23 of 2007 to week # 24 of 2009.
    Only 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 LEFT PZERO CORSA and 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 RIGHT
PZERO CORSA are involved in this recall.
Please also be advised that, if your vehicle has the subject tire as a spare, it will be replaced free
of charge as part of this recall action.
A prior warning would or could be irregular tread wear, a sudden increase in vehicle vibration or
noise caused by the slapping of the partially separated tread against the wheel well. If you
experience any of these signs, you should stop and check the tires or have the tires inspected. The
possibility of any of the above occurring is increased under certain conditions such as extremely
high speeds (at and over 168 mph (270 kmh)).
    2 of 2
We urge you to contact either any Authorized Ferrari Dealer in case the affected tires are fitted on
a Ferrari vehicle or the Pirelli tire dealer where you purchased the tires or any other nearby Pirelli
tire dealer. Make an appointment at once for replacement of the recalled tire(s). You will be given
replacement tires of an updated and improved version.
Whilst front axle tires on Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Scuderia Spider 16M(size 235/35 ZR19 (91Y)
XL K1 PZERO CORSA – IP 1778100) are not involved in this recall, Pirelli SpA have agreed
with Ferrari SpA that, in the case of Ferrari vehicles which have a mileage higher than 625 miles
(1,000 km), the front tires will also be replaced free of charge.
These replacement tires are currently available and will be furnished, mounted, and balanced at
no charge to you within 90 days after receipt of this letter. The replacement will be performed
free of charge to you and will require approximately one (1) to three (3) hour(s). If you own a
Ferrari vehicle please plan to leave your vehicle with the dealership to allow your Ferrari
Authorized Dealer some flexibility for scheduling your repairs.
Until a replacement is made, you should make certain, as always, that your tires are properly
inflated, the vehicle is not overloaded, and you follow posted speed limits.
    As an owner of record of a 285/35 ZR19 (99Y) K1 LEFT PZERO CORSA and 285/35 ZR19
(99Y) K1 RIGHT PZERO CORSA you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of
obtaining a replacement for a defective tire(s) prior to your receiving this recall notification. For
information on this Pirelli reimbursement plan including eligibility requirements and instructions
