Hi community to introduce myself first, my name is matthias and im from vienna AUT . i have a 355 F1 spider from 99. this summer my car started to make some gear problems at higher temperatures. when the temperature increases i have the following problems: - when stopping with the car the gear light goes on and and the transmission is shifting to neutral - sometimes cant change the gears - when this problems appear the oil level of the pressure pump increases over maximum, when i change gears when the engine is off the oil level decreases to normal. when there are lower outside temperatures everything works fine, the clutch is new, and we already changed the oil. i also have a problem with the relais of the pressure pump but i hope i get a new one today. may someone has some ideas for me br matthias
Hi, and welcome to Ferrarichat Matthias!!! Lets cover each symptom individually... This can be normal, if you are parked with the car in gear and without your foot on the brake pedal it will shift into N as a safety feature. It might be that your TCU is not getting the signal to say the brake pedal is applied....I would start there. I believe the signal is taken from the brake light circuit. You will need to be more specific, i.e. what are the driving conditions, lots of gear changes in a row then won't change or just driving along the motorway with no gear changes then try to change and no go? It sounds like your F1 reservoir may be overfull, I believe the F1 fluid level should be checked with the engine running and at normal running temp. (In a similar fashion to checking power steering fluid.)
Hi I found an old thread ( http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114883 ) which describes my problem. I removed the cover behind my seat an made a test drive. when the gear light starts flashing i knocked on the relais and it getting better for some miles. i also noticed yesterday that the pressure pump was still running when i locked the car. the part number on the relais is V23134-B57-X203 ( Siemens ) and as i found out its an non aftermarktet part, so may someone knows a better part than the OEM relais. br matthias
It's a cheap fix and probably something you want to do on a regular basis anyway. I change mine about every two years which reminds me that I'm due
