Scott, There is no idle screw, just an idle bypass valve that electronically controls the idle as far as I understand it. Like I've mentioned above, send the engine to enginefxr (Gary Sharpe) for an excellent rebuild job like he did on my engine. There's no BS and he will do it exactly the way you want. I sent mine all the way from Oregon to him. You're engine doesn't sound all that bad and hindsight I would have just sent that block out instead of buying a surprise from someone else. Definitely post pics. We'd all like to take a look.
Ok mate, $30K it is! Glad to hear you have the car back now. There may be a few issues with your car causing it to idle rough! I CANT believe they would give the car back to you running like that, especially after you just paid them $30K for this job!!! That workshop really sux!!! It is hard to guess how 'rough' the idle is. I mean, is it a miss at idle?? That could be a dead plug or lead??? If it IS just a rough idle only, here a few things it could be. Could be a vaccum leak. Need to have them check for that. Errrrrrrrrr, or someone who is half a mechanic at least. Still not too sure about these guys! I have read about guys cleaning the electrical connectors to the mass air flow sensors with Stabilant 22. That has solved some rough idle issues. That is something you could probably do yourself and it may be worth doing yourself first before you take it back to them wankers. But.............I bet ya the throttle-bodies need to be cleaned and balanced. They are balanced using a mercury gauge and it needs to be done by someone who is competent. I dont think the mechanics there worth their high teeth. You paid a lot of money to that mechainc/workshop whatever. They shouldnt have given your car back to you running rough at idle. It just goes to show the quality of their workmanship. I wouldnt take it back to them personally, but you DID spend a lot of money there so maybe take it back and let them have a go at fixing it. If they cant, take the car elsewhere. Good luck with it and be sure to let us know how you go mate!
Sorry to hear the disaster. I think we, in the northeast area, would really like to know the name of the shop. (via pm, if you like). My experience with my major was less than steller from a very reputable shop in CT as well. I think I will be working on the 328 myself, from now on. I never, sorry to say, had very good experience from any mechanic in my 20 yrs of owning my vehicles. My major was also over priced, in the end, from the initial estimates. I'd say post the name so there will be no business going that way! Ace
See for yourself the cost of doing business with a ferrari when you request estimates in writing, get nothing other than an estimate of 24k-25k, then 6 weeks later get a bill that looks like this with no communication in between other than "should be done in a couple weeks" with no mention of the increase.
