I am posting this out of frustration and the sheer disappointment of how another person can drive your ferrari and totally wreck the car and put you in harms way along with getting compensation by your insurance and walk away clean.

This is a warning to all and just a reminder to not let anyone drive your car. All I can say is that this individual is a piece of $$%^. Drive safely and be careful.

    regards,

So why did you let him drive your car? I'm confused....

I assume the scenario went something like this:

    (1) "good" friend asks to drive Ferrari; (2) drives car like a complete as_ hole showing-off and/or can not handle power; (3) collision with another vehicle and/or stationary object; (4) friend claims injury and has all medical bills and possibly other "losses" covered by Ferrari owner's insurance; and (5) Ferrari owner pays deductible, additional repair costs, etc. Lesson learned.

He had insurance, but the laws are clear. the insurance follows the car, regardless who drives. He did some work on my spider and I was the passenger when he lost control doing 100mph and we did 360's for days until we landed on the opposite side of the freeway facing the other direction in the ditch. luckily we didn't die and even better didn't kill anyone. he told me with complete trust that he wanted to fix it and luckily I found out halfway that he was buying salvaged parts from another wrecked spider and was going to refurbish it and put it on my ferrari. Ultimately my insurance found out and took over. Needless to say that i got the shaft. he got his money back from the insurance a total of $6K for the crap parts and walked away without any additional responsibilities. this is the short version. thanks to all who has read this.

I just tell a little white lie, that so far, seems to stop all conversation on this topic when anyone asks to drive it. "Sorry, my insurance company has a specific rider on the policy for this car that it only covers my wife and I as drivers."

Yeah, I could simply tell them NO, but as I think you all know, that usually doesn't end the conversation.

That's pretty good - defuses the issue in a clean way. That's how it is with rental cars... even if they're just a Kia.

I say the SAME thing. Works in every valet lot too. There was ONE time where they said, "We have insurance to cover it." And I simply said, "I understand but I don't want to have to rely on your insurance to cover any damages and mine WON'T cover a dime in the event of a court battle."

    That ended that conversation quickly.

Sounds like the OP was asking for a little trouble when he was allowing his friend to do 100mph in his Ferrari. That alone was a lack of sound judgement. In addition, prequalifying the driver is the responsibility of the owner.

This is absolute good advice and I can relate! A seemingly intelligent person can become an absolute irresponsible idiot!!! I'm getting p*ssed just thinking about it. NEVER AGAIN! EVER!!

Any time someone asks me to drive my Ferrari I give the same answer.

"A wise old man once told me, 'never lend something to someone that they can't afford to replace'".

I would kind of like to hear the long version. Could be a good one and we certainly have nothing better to do than hear a juicy Ferrari story full of a crash, and ended friendship, a reckless driver, numerous spins, a ditch, etc..

Has the makings of a classic. Or "classiche" if you are speaking "Ferrari".

Sorry to hear of your 355 Spider mate. :(:(

But..........I have let PLENTY of friends drive my Ferrari with no issues. :):)

They are all good friends and I trust them to have a drive. None of them have ever come close to 100 mph while driving my car.:eek:

They have enough respect to not speed/thrash my car. I am always in the car also, wouldnt let them take it out alone. THAT........would probably lead to trouble. :D:D

Funny, my cousin just asked me the other day if he could drive my car. I told him no, and it is not because I do not trust him, but rather I don't trust the other drivers around him while he is driving it and if something was to happen then I would never forgive myself. If it happens when I am driving it is not the same thing.
