Someone enlighten me. From what i have read, on most occasions, when a driver is tracking or racing they generally turn off all the driving assist and disable the abs. I have read electric steering assist is meant to only function during downforce so as to not override the feel afforded by manual steering. Are all these driving aides for the average driver? Also is all wheel drive also aide in driving a high performance car. I have heard that was the reason Lambo went to all wheel drive, and many people convert them to 2 wheel.

    A couple of points:

1: The average driver can hardly steer and brake let alone drive a car.

2: There are some known issues with stability systems. Let us postulate a car being hustled through a corner near/at the limits of traction. Then a small road irregularity allows the rear end to start comming around. Now consider the effect when both the driver and the stability system both make the same recovery move at the same time. Presto, instant snap spin in the opposite direction. Thus, if you have stability control systems, you either have to trust them, or have the ability to turn them off.

3: 4-wheel drive (done right) eliminates the power on oversteer characteristics at the cost of steering wheel sensitivity (and weight).

The old 4wd Lambos are often converted to 2wd when they break as its the most cost-effective solution.....
