I had so much fun when I went to chicago a couple months ago and I cant wait to go back. Perhaps in 9 years Ill be one of the residents complaining about all of the tourist, but if the prices will rise then maybe not. :)

Sorry, I am not excited about the possibility of Chicago hosting the Olympics.

Unfortunately, I just see this as yet another reason to increase taxes to cover the costs. No doubt Chicago hosting the Olympics will lead to sweetheart deals for connected contractors, vendors, suppliers, etc. This will lead to cost overruns at least 2x more than “planned”. Rich and Todd will just have "no choice" but to raise sales and property taxes yet again to cover the unexpected overruns.

    Sorry for the hijack.

speaking of frikin property taxes I just go mine...up 50 percent can you fu@@@@g believe it. 2016 is double edged for me...Will do incredible things for my business, but then I lose my boat on the lake front. All the boaters will lose the spots they have(Monroe, Dusable)and the city is not planning on giving them back to us...It will become another park like they always wanted. We are smack dab in the middle of all rowing competitions. I can get primo rental for my house......looks right down at the Dusable.

So I am on the fence right now if I want it or not.

Time to bump this thread. What do you guys think?? It will bring Chicago and the USA into the spotlight for a few months in 2016. Is it worth it??
I think it is since they are still remembering the 1893 and 1933 Chicago worlds fairs. It will help build a legacy for the city.(not that we don't already have one!)
We might even get a mini building boom in the south loop and all over downtown Chicago.

Of course it will be worth it:

    - to build it, it will generate lots of jobs, perfect timing
    - the games will be awesome fun to attend
    - any investment will come back multiplied by the revenues
    - after the games we will not only have our great memories but all the improved infrastructure

It depends now all on Obama and whether he can find time in his schedule to fly to Denmark. The IOC members are a fickle bunch and just sending the misses is not good enough when all other nations send their president.

That said, I'm convinced we will win the Games. Since our only real competition is Rio and Brazil already has the World Cup in 2014 plus TV rights are the biggest income generator for the games and NBC will pay much bigger bucks for games held in the US than in Brazil.

Interesting statistics recently showed that public support for the Olympics is almost evenly split, half for and half against. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Before you guys worry about 2016 maybe you should think about stopping your school children from beating each other to death with 2x4's.

Every big city has had gang problems. Now its Chicago's turn. Im sure they will
    slow the problem by 2016.
By the way, that Chicagoans for RIO 2016 website is based in Rio.

    +1

It's funny how people use Rio as a shining example. Have they ever been there? I have. Twice and it was anything but pleasure: Their slums make our South/Westside look like child's play. They have real gang wars and even in the "safe" zones there is plenty of crime and chicanery by the police.

And again: Brazil will host the World Cup in 2014. It is therefore very unlikely that the IOC would give them another global sports gem two years later.

The purpose of Rio (and the other cities) was to keep Chicago on its toes and make the city comform with the IOC demands (which Chicago did ultimately). Now it is time to bring home the bacon.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic.
Not my children. Not any where near where I reside. This normally happens in a certain longitude/latitude where others from that sector, not just children, murder each other like it's a favorite pass time. It's very sad.

Nope. They traced it back to an IP address in Rio, and has nothing to do with anyone from Chicago . They don't know if its connected with the acual Rio bid team or not.

    Too funny.

I hope Chicago does win the Olympic bid. It will be the closest I'll ever be to the games since I'm 110% positive Milwaukee will never be chosen.

To pay for everything are you guys planning on raising the cost of entering the state to $5? :p

Atleast $5.00!! :) It will end up costing more than they say, but it will be very good for Chicago and the region. Media attention is always on NY and LA. Chicago will get more of the national and international spotlight if they win the bid, there is no doubt of that. Chicago deserves more respect from the national media than they get!!

    ??

The secret is out. Longtime Chicago advertising creative Kevin Lynch is the brain behind ChicagoansForRio.com, the Chicago Olympic bid naysayer Web site that has been the subject of numerous media reports in recent days.

Since June, Lynch has been the top creative at Proximity, the digital advertising arm of Energy BBDO/Chicago, whose clients include Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co and the Illinois Lottery. Prior to joining Proximity, Lynch was for many years a top creative at Hadrian's Wall/Chicago, which was bought out by a Toronto ad agency and rebranded as Zig/Chicago.

Crain's Chicago Business reported Lynch was behind the site after a technical expert traced the Chicagoans for Rio Web registration to Lynch, who also has his own blog at blog.15-ideas.com.

Today Lynch posted on the blog a Q & A with himself explaining his reasons for creating the anti-Chicago bid site. He offers numerous reasons he thinks the International Olympic Committee should vote for Rio de Janeiro over Chicago. Lynch said he never expected his connection to the Chicagoans for Rio Web site to remain a secret. He said he's been wearing a Chicagoans for Rio T-shirt for several months.

No, getting in is free. It is the getting out that costs, I say $50 is fair. ;)

Well thats news. I heard that it was an IP address in Rio from gamesbids. Who knows, although if he is in advertising I hope he lost some business from Chicago firms because of this!!
